I'm catholic and couldn't give a f***...but I also couldn't give a f*** if Mohamed, Buddha and Henry the 8th were landing on a BA flight and kissing the tarmac.

I voted 'don't give a shit' because I couldn't give a damn about that anachronistic old fool. But that's not quite right. I DO care if the taxpayer is paying for the security and everything that goes with bringing him over.

Let him stay in the vatican and play with whatever Catholic priests like playing with :tosser:

So when it comes to it, your TRUTHS is down to one truth (the rest being opinion) - the issue of the abuse. Benedicts role in it is unclear and not completely proven, but I completely agree that there should be a full independent investigation, and if it incriminates the pope then so be it. However, I am not going to renege on my faith because of the acts (completely contrary to that faith) committed by a few.

And will you f***ing give over on the Nazi thing? Forget the Pope, I think you are showing a serious disprespect to Germans, not to mention those who were brave enough to stand up to the Nazis and faced their death as a result, by constantly suggesting that you are so f***ing great that you would have.

Why do I need to give over on the Nazi thing?? A serious disrespect to Germans?? are you totally mental?

I'm not the f***ing POPE you goon.

I voted for non-Catholic and do care about the Papal visit, I have many friends who are Roman Catholic and understand that this visit means a great deal to them, I understand how important it is to those who practice the religion. However, I am concerned for them at the same time as I think the visit could ultimately cause them and their church great harm.

If you are prepared to overlook the fact that the Pope appears willing to overlook and possibly even cover up child abuse and paedophilia by priests he does appear to have some views, particularly in relation to homosexuality and contraception that have absolutely no place in British society. His presence in the UK looks more likely to damage the reputation of the church, as its values and attitudes come under severe public scrutiny, the danger is that he will almost single handedly show the church up as out of date and irrelevant.

How times have changed. I don't think you can dismiss the visit of the Pope lightly. Simply because his faith has many followers. However to me the present Pope is a poor shadow of John Paul. In that case John Paul seemed to be able on many subjects to 'touch' people or get a message across. Surely he must have a great deal influence in the collaspe of the Eastern Bloc ?

To go back to the Original Question.

I will not be welcoming him to my Country.

He must stop his Anti Stem cell research objections - research that could save the lives of many people.

In one fell swoop the Pope could save millions of lives in Africa by endorsing the use of contraception.

He must instigate a detailed INDEPENDENT investigation concerning ALL child abuse cases carried out by Catholic priests. (not a whitewash by the Church themselves.)

He must change his stance on homosexuality and women priests.

Until he does these, then he is not welcome in my Country.

Saved me typing. Nail on Head.

He can go wherever he likes, as can anyone in the free world. He could fly to the f***ing moon for all I care. Don't listen to him when he is in Rome, won't listen to him when he is strolling around Birmingham Bullring. Personally I wouldn'y pay 25 quid to see anything in Birmingham let alone a paedo in a plastic box.

Some of the Fascist leanings of the Church are well documented

Pope Pious (or was it "innocent") refusing to condemn the persecution of the Jews by the Nazis?

The many hundreds of SS war criminals helped out of Europe by sympathetic Catholic priests after the war?

The well documented Hitler Youth membership of Benedict?...everyone had to join...MY ARSE

They may as well have a f***ing great swastika hanging on the Vatican IMO.

Not a catholic but should also remember the many catholic priests who helped jews and POWs escape the Nazis.

An dbefore Dandyman comes in, yes I DO know of the policy in Poland of Jewish kids only being saved IF they were given to be brought up in Catholic families. Just trying to be objective.

I have just heard that his Popeness 1st cousin was killed by the Nazis for having downsyindrome and his father was an anit-nazi teacher.

Anyone who thinks he was happy to be in the Hitler Youth is deluded and being histerical.
