Maybe do the same for Iran too?No but I think things are starting to escalate in the Middle East into something extremely messy and dangerous, and the only way we can start to de-escalate is for Israel to be bought back under control which nobody seems interested in doing
Was it Nixon who said WW3 effectively started when the USA dropped the second bomb on Japan and so ended WW2, and every conflict since that day has technically been a battle in the ‘bigger’ war between the US and Russia? There's an argument we've been at war for years, just not in the sense of mass armed conflict between the biggest nations. Poisonings here and elsewhere, espionage apparently increasing, technology as a state means of mass surveillance of foreign populations (Huawei accusations for eg), hacking at an astronomical scale to compromise essential infrastructure, attempted and successful election interference, and then all the proxy conflicts that have gone on for decades. At the moment it feels like it wouldn't take much to tip that over into major armed conflict, it feels horribly like it's all building up to it.
Since 1066.It feels like we might be?

Was listening to a debate about the national service being re introduced. The majority of foreign folk who have made the UK their home said they would all leave with their kids so they didn’t have to fight for this country. Rats leaving a sinking ship sprang to mind.

I dunno 20 or something how many can you get into a two hour radio phone in.How many immigrants were on there?
Not being argumentative just trying to get an idea of numbers.
Dulce et decorum est, pro patria moriNo, just old men sending out young men to kill each other.
The world never changes.
Thankfully I had a history teacher who gave a reality check to the Great War.Dulce et decorum est, pro patria mori
Not anymoreDulce et decorum est, pro patria mori
When the UK left Afghanistan in 2014, according to The Guardian, it was the first time since 1914 that they weren't engaged in conflict somewhere. When have we not been at war?
Absolutely. Needs to include Saudi, Jordan, Egypt. Key players. Are we at war? Maybe in a 21st century sense we are.
Should we be at war is the question?
Well ideally not. But should we leave civilian shipping to be sunk without any fear of response? Probably not
Should we allow Putin to march into whatever country he wants? No I don't think so either?
I know loads will pile on to say we just shouldn't get involved. But I think we should. But it shouldn't just be left to the US and Britain (and a handful prepared to do something meaningful to help Ukraine). These are the worlds problems.
And I know loads will also pile on a dredge up decisions which were made decades ago. Well maybe there are debates to be had and if someone wants to create a general discussions on the right and wrongs of history thread i'm sure it will be fascinating. But the question at hand is what should Biden, Sunak, Macron, Sholtz and about 200 other leaders do right now. I think turning the other cheek is the wrong thing to do here.
