Former Prime Minister Tony Blair, the Middle East envoy, said it was vital to "take sides" against the Assad regime and in other regional disputes.

Mr Blair, who took the decision for British troops to join the US-led action in Iraq, wrote in the Times: "I know as one of the architects of policy after 9/11 the controversy, anguish and cost of the decisions taken.

"They have to be defeated. We should defeat them, however long it takes because otherwise they will not disappear. They will grow stronger until, at a later time, there will be another crossroads and this time there will be no choice."

Well, there you have it :annoyed:

Who is he talking about? And I thought an Envoy was a diplomat - that is not a very diplomatic statement to make!

I wonder what the world would be like if the Yanks thought that in WW2? Albeit they were ruddy late

The yanks DID think that in ww2 , they were attacked by Japan , and Germany declared war on them, if Germany hadn't , then their plan was to concentrate on the Pacific theatre , all they had done until this point was to sell us obsolete equipment ,lend lease crippled us financially.

the problems in Syria, Iraq, and Egpyt have all been created and controlled by agents of the west. Keep reading the Sun and Mail for your knowledge.

Thanks for that. Before today I never realised that Bush and Blair were muslims.

It's quite clear where your views lie on this.

The fact is Blair was right, and Cameron will also be right.

Using Chemical Weapons (Now fact) on your own people is wrong on many levels.

It sounds like Hybrid and yourself form your opinions from Michael Moore.

It seems that the British Forces are actually a mercenary force subcontracted to the USA now. They go where Uncle Sam tells the PM to send them.

They use drones for air attacks too.

You say that, but I am 100% sure that Uncle Sam wants NOTHING to do with this. This is Europe, like what happened in Libya, asking for American help. America is nowhere near Syria and has already burnt its nose in the Middle East. Syria and France share the same sea, and boarders a potential EU member. This is Britian and France subcontracting, like we have since 1945, American forces.

...and if they find out the government DID do it? What then?

If they find out the rebels do it, what then?

I have no appitite for another war either, and I was against both the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but can we really sit back and watch a dictator using chemical weapons on people?

Only sensible post in the whole thread !

I'll turn it round - if I was an innocent civilian being gassed ( by whoever ) would I be happy as the world stood by shaking its head and said "your problem mate" ?

Lucky we didn't do that with the Nazi's and Jews - or are those against dealing with the situation seriously suggesting we should have turned our heads then as well ???

This. The French have got all big and hard since they smashed a few farmers in Mali. They now want to feel big and important!

Why does the USA / BRITAIN and to a lesser state europewant to take action when Middle Eastern countries seem to take a back seat?

Because the only power in the Middle East left, apart from Israel, is Iran, and they support the Syrian government.

If I was a conspiracist, I would be look at a nuclear sub that has just bobbed up in Gibraltar, look at the situation, wonder whether that was all fabricated by the Spanish and British to get said sub in the Med with a prefab to show its self as a warning to Spanish Government when in reality it is showing the Syrian Government we mean business and not to retaliate 'too much'.

Wow! good imagination, you could write a book based on that story.

Blair is a War Criminal who lied to Parliament and the country. There were no WMDs and the war on Iraq has lead to over a million deaths, sectarian civil war, a massive increase in Iranian influence in the region and terrorism on the streets of London.

Any intervention in Syria will be about expanding the influence of the USA with the UK as ever the obedient cannon fodder.

Are you aware that Churchill refused to bomb either the death camps or the railways leading to them despite repeated appeals from Jewish organisations and others ?

Iraq was invaded on a lie. Afghanistan was just revenge for 9/11. Syria on the other hand is increasingly looking similar to the Nazi attacks against Jews. I personally would feel very uncomfortable if we turned our backs.

Yes I am. Eventually, although too late, we acted.
