Do tell me what the real problem is then ?
Greater Manchester Police conceded that Jones had committed no crime. No charges were filed, no laws were broken. Still, the visit left her shaken, too intimidated to post on social media again. “I’ve effectively been silenced,” she told the Daily Mail.

Spot the irony!

Sadly I think you are in a tiny minority of our idiotic population when you do that.
I'm pleased to say I am part of that minority too. I checked this story and the only "evidence" I could see to corroborate came from The Mail, Telegraph, GBNews and a couple of other right wing establishments.
Doesn't seem very balanced!

Yes, I found the same evidence. Even the quote I used was from a right wing blog.

You think the police will sometimes tell people that a complaint has been made against them? That seems an odd starting point. But that's what the police say has happened and what the" grandmother" says happened
I assumed it was a nothing story, but apparently the GMP have said it happened?

The sensible thing to do would be to the accuser to politely go away and stop wasting their time, wasn't it the Labour councillor in the vile what's app chat?

From what I can see (happy to be corrected) what the woman posted at no point needed police intervention.

The Police really don't help themselves sometimes, there is enough proper crime to be sorted this is just awful PR for them and invites another pile on.

Have you found what she posted, as none of the reports I've looked at have actually said?

Only what was posted elsewhere, which was calling for him to resign - which is why I am happy to be pointed towards what was said.

TBH if the Police admit it doesn't break the law, it doesn't overly matter ?

What I don’t understand, is why the police visited to say no crime had been committed, but when people get their phones/bikes/property nicked, the police at best offer to let you make a statement weeks later at a police station?

If a complaint had been made, and the evidence was the post (which wasn’t criminal), the police will have reviewed that and decided No Further Action, making a visit absolutely pointless.

Feels like intimidation to me.

One of the things I am interested in (and it's nice to have a proper economist to bounce this off) is the bank of england and base rate controls.
There has generally been a lot of positivity about allowing the BOE to control interest rates and therefore manage inflation. It has always struck me that to control inflation, you need to take money out of the economy and to promote growth you need to invest. I've always considered that BOE base rates are a slow mechanism to acheive this. My brain simply can't escape the conclusion that the best way to take money out of the economy is to tax more highly.
Equally, to promote growth you need to reduce debt or perhaps fund infrastructure investments which reduce the cost of public services or promote private sector growth.

Isn't tax a better answer to manage inflation.
it sounds like a good idea, however would rely on government using the extra revenue to pay off debt, and resist using it to pay for more health, education, defence, police, locals services that everyone wants. no chance in practice.

Good on her for being brave I say. I can’t understand why the police would go to her home. Do you understand why they did that? Except to say no crime had been committed?
I think it was staged, to be honest. She was accused of harassment, by persons unknown, seemingly all played out on Facebook, and the police called round to say it was ok, and there was no charge.

As has been pointed out, it’s only the Mail, Express, and GBNews covering it.

If I was upset by accusations, the last thing I would do is contact the national press, and who took the photos?

I don’t know if there is any evidence for it being staged. As for the press coverage, the selective reporting goes both ways, we know this. To my knowledge she hasn’t been charged with wasting police time or anything.

Not necessarily, for example raising ers nic (I’m not criticising that) has led to some businesses increasing prices = inflation.

Then regarding further government borrowing to invest, Corbyn wanted to do that to a huge extent, because of the sentiment of global money markets and credit reference agencies, interest rates for the UK would increase … the rate at which the markets would expect a return on new gilts. Which in turn would increase BoE interest rates, affecting mortgage and other borrowers. There’s no free lunch. Truss thought there was. It’s a balancing act, Reeves is trying to tread it, hence not borrowing £100b’s to buy up former nationalised emtities.

Staged and the police are in on it?

GMP has one of the highest crime rates in Britain. A spokesman said: “We spoke to the woman for six minutes to advise she was the subject of a complaint of harassment and to answer any questions she may have. No further action is necessary as no crime has been committed.

We are under a duty to inform her that she is the subject of a complaint. The genuine threats that have been made to local councillors recently have meant it has been more necessary to ensure all reports are looked at. On this day officers were making 203 arrests for crimes like assault, burglary and rape. Tackling these priorities are why the complaint was dealt with two days after it was reported.”

Why would she be charged? It's not her that made the accusation of harassment against her. The Police have let her know that the charges won't be resulting in anything.

Of course not, she was accused by someone else of harassment.
The person who complained about her was wasting police time.
