Given the choice of chairmen, I'd pick Chainrai every time.
All that Pompey have suffered is a couple of relegations. They're still alive and kicking, still in the third tier, still playing at their home ground in their home town.
That's nothing compared to what we went through. Chainrai is a saint compared to Archer.

I disagree and may get slated for this but I don't think that Archer set out to shaft us and had we accepted playing at Fratton Park for 1 season we would have had our own ground a lot sooner than we did. I am sure that he took the action as a rebuff to the fans and police who objected to us going to Fratton but in reality it is a choice between the devil and the deep blue sea scenario. You don't really wish for either

Archer was here to line his pockets and shafted us to do it. I cannot believe that you can still peddle the myth that he ever intended to build us a new ground.
Reminds me of Atilla telling us all that Greg Stanley was Albion through and through
I don't agree. How would playing at Fratton have helped find a new ground in the Brighton area? Archer never had any kind of convincing plan (if he even cared) about where to build a new stadium. He kept on flogging dead horses of sites which planners had already ruled out.

I am in no way backing Archer here but didn't the club manage to get planning permission for a ground at Waterhall while he was in charge ? That said he never had the finance to actually build it.

Archer had plans for a new stadium but we will never know if they would have come to fruition but that is all history and thankfully we have moved on and made great strides under a true BHA fan. I must say I wouldn't wanted to have Chanrai involved in our club at all and it is a case of having an opinion on the lesser of two evils.

1st I've heard of it. Waterhall was a complete no no always from what I remember.
I agree with the point - its a choice between 2 evils.
Those new stadium plans were awful - so unrealistic - werent they posted on here again a little while ago? I reckon it was all complete bollocks, just trying to keep us off his back. Comparing that proposed ground to The Amex is like comparing Vanessa Feltz and Halle Berry. We are lucky that it has turned out as it has now. I dont feel sorry for Portsmouth as they brought it on themselves.

As said by a couple of posters above and many times before the "plans" to build a new ground were frankly laughable. Quite literally a rectangular outline of stadium in plan surrounding by retail units on a site the council had already ruled out. When you add in the removal of the no profit clause from the articles of association and any actions such as the complete shut down of all marketing activities and you should get the picture.
It is very important that the younger (and new) generation of fans are told the true story behind the near death of our club

No. Is the short answer. The Albion had as much chance of getting permission to build at Waterhall as I do of winning gold in the Synchronised Swimming.
He did make up a plan to build at Toads Hole Valley, but that never reached a realistic stage as the council effectively laughed him out of town before any plans were submitted.
Suggesting Archer ever wanted to build us a stadium is like saying Barnsley were in for Gordon Greer. Make up a ludicrous idea (like them offering us £75,000 for our captain) and you can tell the world you're going for it, when in reality there is absolute zero chance of it happening, and you know it.

Without going over old ground he fell out with Barry Lloyd over the signing of the agreement to build on Beeding for which the plans and finance were at a very advanced stage, whether we like it or not and the the cynics say it wouldn't and couldn't have happened. Getting full planning permission and FL approval was a formality. I dont however wish to go into this any more as we have moved on and should thank our lucky stars for this.
but you brought the ground into the discussion, i dont understand. Why mention if you dont want to bring in as part of it? if we have been asked to pic between the 2 cocks in the OP post, then it is more than likely going to be mentioned.
I always thought that Greg Stanley, with his high interest bearing loans to the club, was far more evil than Bill Archer.
