Leaving college I have NO plans for the future other than wanting to be a mechanic.

Does anyone know of any garages that are wanting to take on any apprentices?

Thanks (I am VERY desperate)

Get the phone book out and write to all the garages within commuting distance of where you live, you should find a few who will give you an interview and maybe one who is prepared to take you on.

Good luck.

maybe go to somewhere like city college or one of those other places that do trade courses and ask for their advice

i imagine that most places wont take you on without some basic knowledge of the trade or an attatchment to a college

if you are serious about it there is always central sussex college at crawley you could try

What type of mechanic?

*Asks advice from a garage owner in the next room...*

You might have to start off polishing cars and sweeping floors as a Saturday boy. That's how all the best ones start. It's difficult to persuade employers that you're not gonna be the same as the last waste of time work experience kid they had. Show dedication, they like that apparently.

If you just want to work on engines, have you thought of other types of mechanical engineering, such as aircraft or boats. If you join an organisation, such as the Royal Navy, they will give you all the training you ever need plus much more besides, including skills that will stand you in good stead for the rest of your working life. They will probably require a minimum educational standard, as you have been to college I am assuming you will probably have some qualifications, why not give them a go?

Ha..Yes £100k, pick your hours, saucy housewifes..looks great doesn't it..?

Don't believe all that you see in the papers, the market is flooded with people who have spent £4k buying their way into 4 week courses.
They then go out to the real world, fighting with Polaks who will churn a bathroom refit for £400..

Mind you, more work for me when it goes wrong..
