This is why I won't be getting an iPhone 5 or even upgrading to iOS 6, despite the masses clamouring to get their hands on it. Why? I love Google Maps and couldn't do without it, and unless Google release an equivalent app for it then I remain happily with my iPhone 4 and iOS 5.

The 3d mapping of big cities (NY, London etc..) is very impressive but for day to day use its a step back.

The YouTube app is gone on the new iOS as well.

I'm very keen on Apple stuff but, having upgraded my iPad to the new IOS and been really hacked off at the loss of Street View particularly as well as the general shoddiness of the maps, I will be keeping my iPhone 4 on the old operating system.

i cant help but assume that this would NEVER have been released in its current state if steve jobs was still alive, the man was a perfectionist, and this is truly truly awful.

Since I got my first MacBook and IMac in 2006 I've been very impressed with Apple generally but just recently they've been testing my patience. Introducing iCloud as an integral part of the system but not making it backwards compatible with Snow Leopard really irritated me. There are some good things in IOS6 but the maps are such a retrograde step that you have to wonder what is going on. It's probably too much of a leap to say that the company is on the slide since the death of Steve Jobs but I have to say the thought has crossed my mind.

That said, the fact that I still have a six year old computer which can handle almost everything I ask of it keeps me just about onside. I've never had that sort of experience with a PC.

what would make me laugh is if google release an iOS version of google maps and charge 69p for it and made a HUGE amount of money because of apples screw up. Obviously apple stand to make money off of that as well but it would just be hilarious if they end up filling google's pockets. Of course google will never charge for an application so i cant see it happening.

Have to admit nothing in the world beats Google Maps or Google Earth. The amount of hours I have spent on this thing exploring.

The question I ask is did you ever spend on a PC what you spent on your Mac? Mac as well made and with a decent spec. So they are going to last you. Likewise if you spend £1,000 on a pc it will last you.

But it's still oh so magical. So stop complaining and embrace everything that is wonderful about Apple.

Slightly off topic, maybe, but why does nobody make similar complaints about the Facebook maps/locations? If I post on Facebook from near Balham (near me in South London), Facebook interprets that as "Balham, Ardennes" in France. I don't see why that's different to interpreting "London" as the London in Ontario (and is just one example of Facebook getting it wrong).

Plus the 3D modelling of London is FIT. Fully zoomable, rotatable, movable up&down (as in the viewing height). I love it.

because facebook maps isn't used for navigation ??? completely different things.

the 3D may be pretty, but it is completely POINTLESS.
