There's a lot of hatred for Apple's hastily put together Maps app it would seem, all over the internets.

The thing is though they're licensing all the data from TomTom who have plenty of experience here, so it seems strange that the maps are just SO wrong.

Interesting comparison here of the new Apple Maps vs Google Maps on Android and the lesser known Nokia Maps which you can find, unsurprisingly on Nokia handsets:

Benchmarking mobile maps Nokia Conversations : the official Nokia blog

Now admittedly the article is on Nokia's own blog so you'd expect it to come out in Nokia's favour but you can't argue with the cold hard stats. And I've always been impressed by Nokia Maps on my own Lumia handset. It's great being able to get navigation wherever you are and not need a data connection. An absolute lifesaver out in the sticks

Slightly off topic, maybe, but why does nobody make similar complaints about the Facebook maps/locations?

because Facebook has a poor map so expectations are not high. Apple had a good map and has forced people to change to a poor map, so expectations have not been met.

Apple has always fostered high expections. in general the iPhone 5 release has been a bit "meh", so rather than focus whats good, ok, and catches up with the competition, there has been focus on what has failed to reach the bar, and this is a new thing for Apple. its a chink in the amour.

And after Nokia pointed out Apple's failings, here comes Google's own Motorola to poke fun at the piss poor Apple mapping in a new advert
