Still cannot get anything to download back from this hard drive and it has everything on it from other PC

You should be able to see the external hard drive with all the icons on the right of your desktop. Can you see this?

It's not going to copy itself from the hard drive to the Mac all by itself.

You need to drag over the files and folders by yourself by dragging and dropping.

Open up a Finder window, highlight Applications in the "Places" section, go to the Utilities folder and open Disk Utility.

In the Disk Utility program, just highlight the attached drive, right click and select Information. A new window will open up. Within that window do a select all (Command+A) and then right click and select copy. If you paste the info here, I can have a look.
