Apple Mac Question

One tip - have a look in the Apple UK site for refurbished Macs. That's how I bought mine a couple of years ago - Apple refurbished is effectively a new product and you can make good savings. As new iMacs were released just a few weeks ago there could be some 'old' (but still great) models there.

Re speakers - the built in ones are good quality, but I agree if you want some deep bass or tip-top sound quality then it's a good idea to buy better ones.

Essentially you can assume that all you want is built-in (unless you want to do anything very specialist). It's also amazing how much good free software is out there - and I do mean legally free :)

Just a point, PC's don't "slow down" or degrade in the same way that a car does.

A complete reinstallation of the OS will make it feel like new.

Drag the window to full-size, of course. Were you expecting a keyboard shortcut?

Did you buy more memory for your shiny new Mac?

Nope, should I download any anti virus stuff or just pray ?

No, memory is what makes the computer run faster and means you can run loads of programs at the same time. Apple Macs tend not to come preloaded with much memory. It's usually one of the first things to consider when buying a Mac. RAM Memory Upgrade: Dell, Mac, Apple, HP, Compaq. USB drives, flash cards, SSD at Crucial.com
is a good place to buy more memory.

As for anti-virus software, I don't bother and haven't had a virus in ten years of Mac-using.

Open up Finder (blue faced icon, probably on the far left of the 'dock' at the bottom of the screen).

Your drive should be listed under 'devices' down the left.

Double-click My Passport icon to see what's inside it. Drag the files from My Passport to a location within your computer's hard drive such as to your Desktop.

"My Passport" is a drive name -- just click on it, open it up and start dragging.

Command-click for multiple select, and shift-click on last item to select a range.

If you miss a right mouse button, either control-click, or put two fingers on the touchpad and tap twice...

you don't "run" a hard drive - you navigate it and then do stuff to the files (like copy over to your Mac hard drive). Just click on it and browse away...

true, and usually a simple defrag will cure a "slow" PC. too late now, but bear it in mind before binning or passing on. methinks you just wanted a new toy, enjoy.:xmas::lol:
