I can confirm it doesn't happen..Will see if they do it at Burton and will report back!
You can bet your bottom dollar EVERYONE at Burton will be cheering for the Albion on Saturday.

I can't quite get my head around it as I was brought up in the days when there was a very different relationship with away supporters. Each to their own though and it doesn't bother me when people clap them. However I'm not sure about the idea that it's appropriate becaus of the distance travelled on a Tuesday night. Most clubs have large numbers of supporters living in and around London which means away turnouts are larger than they would be if everyone were traveling from Yorkshire. I noticed Sky last night praising the Geordies for a large turnout on a Tuesday 10(?) hours from home when a lot of them probably lived less than an hour away (and yup I wasn't at Falmer yesterday as it's too far on a Tuesday night from Suffolk).
Wow, mentalist. Is the correct answer. We're all people, we're all fans of our teams.
I draw the line at palace though, they can **** right off.
Nothing about the problems with the trains? I'm surprised.
Nobody's suggested this, i sit close enough to the away end to see the absolute derision with which this is greeted, you carry on doing it though, sat there with your bobble hat and flask , blissfully unaware of the contempt that this ''lovely'' gesture'' is held.Don't all these Johnny Come Latelys realise, football is war!
How can anybody applaud some dirty northern scum, who have turned up in our fair city, intent on plundering, and ravishing our team. People will be suggesting we clap seriously injured players, when they are stretched off the pitch next, instead of pointing and howling our derision at them.
These opposition supporters are nothing like us, we are unique in our love for our team, how dare they come down here and support their team, in mid-week. I'm with Bushy on this one, PATHETIC!!!!!!

Nobody mentioned being hard either, just that it was pitiful, youre thrashing around like a drowning man now, trying to justify your original post, give it up mate, you look a tit.Well, obviously if I was as 'ard' as you, I wouldn't be trying to curry favour with all the pwoper nawty away support, so they didn't nick my bobble hat, and smash my flask in the park and ride queue.
As I said, PATHETIC!!!!

This. Exactly.
Applauding the away support on a Saturday makes me cringe - well done, you're supporting your team.
.
But when they've travelled over 200 miles on a Tuesday night when there's alternative viewing on the box, they deserve applause.
Like many of us, having travelled to an evening Northern away game, I know the effort involved!

Interesting image...
I applaud them for making the effort to come down and support their team and – more importantly – putting money into Brighton and Hove Albion by purchasing their tickets, beer, pies and burgers. I couldn't give two hoots what they are chanting, because invariably when away teams chant something at us, we chant something back at them. Sometimes we don't need them to start the tasteless chants; we start them ourselves.
Hope this helps and I'm sorry if that doesn't qualify me as a 'real' supporter.
It's part of mindfulness, being aware of what's going on in the world around you and being interested in it.
Nobody's advocated a return to the 70s or 80s mentality either , like I said , your trying to justify something a lot of "blokes" (I obviously don't include you in that category) both Brighton and away fans, find cringeworthy, like I also said , give up the faux danny dyer act, you're looking a tit.Yeah, you're right, I look a tit, where as you are the epitome of reason.
Sometimes I clap them sometimes I don't, depends on who they are, how far they've come, and whether I like them as a team, but, there again grew up and left the seventies and eighties mentality behind a long time ago, where as some, just can't seem to shake it off
Can you tell me how you go about applauding visiting supporters? All I've ever seen (and heard) is one round of applause when the attendance is announced. There is never a specific applause for the away fans and I've never seen anybody get out of their seat to face the visiting section and applaud. This, and all the other threads on this subject are becoming slightly bizzarre
Yeah, sure. The announcer says words to effect of "The official attendance tonight is XX,XXX, which includes XXXX supporters from [insert name of visiting club here]. We thank them for their support". At which point, I'll give them a clap
What amazes me is that people get so up-tight about things that is peripheral to the game itself that they feel to start threads like this in the first place.
Fair enough then but at a fair few away grounds the attendance is announced and is also applauded by the Home contingent. Can I take it that I am being congratulated for the effort that went into my 750 mile round-trip to St.James' Park a fortnight ago? Not that it bothers me if they don't
