Anyone on NSC keep chickens?

Thinking of rehoming some battery hens, however need to build a chicken coop. Anyone have any tips or advice on diy chicken coops? I've already suggested a scale model of the Amex, but have been shot down in flames by the missus. Considering building a KFC style chicken coop too!

there's a book available (on amazon i think) of plans for DIY chicken coops. dependant on how much space you've got, you might need a covered run as well. chickens and ducks are easy to keep and good fun

yep, 4- gus, lampard. twinkle and 1 other whos name i cant remember. had rooney but he sadlydied of red mite infestation.. get 3 or 4 eggs a day which are lovely.

builing a coop is easy,if you keep it on grass make sure you bury 20cm of the wire into the ground to stop foxes digging under the coop. just build a laying area and a couple of perches for them to rest on at night

Our neighbour is our landlord! Need to run it by him first, but tend do bribe him with the offer of fresh eggs. Failing that giving him a beer usually works Isn't it only the cocks that are noisy though were only planning on having hens...

Don't think you have got much to complain about, when we were kids we had chickens...reckon the cockerel was halal, he used to crow at about three in the morning when it was sunrise in Mecca.

We're looking to move houses and I have been playing with the idea, but my other half is not budging on this one. I stand a better chance of adding to my collection of push bikes, as they don't freak her out, like chickens do.

It's taken about 3 years of lobbying to get the lady to even consider the idea... But now I think I've got her converted as we actually have a garden. Our Whitechapel student digs would have struggled to accomodate any chickens, although I had plans for a run and coop on the balcony!

I'm a keen gardener and my husband seems to think they'll trash my veggies and garden etc and I'll lose a lot of space for their house (we don't have a huge garden due to my husbands workshop )
