Anyone on NSC keep chickens?



If you keep them penned in, they won't trash your vegetables. They'll supply your compost bin with a regular heaps of well-manured straw and, when it's rotted down and spread, it will deliver masses of nutrients to the soil and you will double the size of your vegetable crop.

And eggs ... oh, the eggs! So much tastier than anything in the shops.

Word of warning - avoid cockerels unless you have a large area.

Had to get rid of ours - he now lives is a five acre wood.

Took great exception to me and kept flying at me feet first - did not wait long enough for his spurs to grow.
