Spanish is the one I take seriously although when on holiday I always learn hello, good morning and thank you as I believe its just a common courtesy, it also breaks the ice, i've applied this in Greek, Turkish, Cantonese, Arabic, Italian, French, Albanian, Thai, Hungarian, Czech, German, Dutch, Maltese, Swedish, Catalan and Malaysian, It's not a lot to ask

As someone who lived in Italy for fifteen months, I find Catalan a lot easier to follow than Spanish when I visit Barcelona.
