Anyone else quite happy if we stay in the championship for a few seasons?

I'm happy to stay in the championship.

History up to now says Brighton are a 3rd division club so these are our glory years.

Football changes quickly , you can go from hero to zero in no time and this (combined with the history of Albion disappointments) is probably some reason why some are calling for it all now now now. Teams have spent millions and years trying to get up so to think we will definitely get up in 2 years is ridiculous. Managers leave / players leave / fans can drop off / momentum changes / finances etc. There are too many variables which make it hard to simply "be content" sitting in the championship for a few years.

In all likeliness this period we are enjoying is probably the best opportunity to make it. I suspect we will mimic Swansea where another manager will come in and carry on the good work whilst refining it. At what point it will be decided that Poyet has taken us as far as he can is an interesting one. It may never be known if he pushes on. I am not against the notion that a new manager in would mean negative impact on the playing side however this happens.

As for the premiership , if we are in with a chance of survival for a few years I'm sure it would be amazing. Getting tonked every week of course would be shit but you dont have to be in the premier league to experience that. The peak of my life being an Albion fan I think would be following the team round Europe. Getting up gets us closer to this somehow happening.

The premier league/premiership is the biggest hyped up load of bollocks ever it's not the premiership it's league Division 1 dressed up with sponsors and fancy agents and we're in Division 2 not the fancy wording of the championship followed by Div 3 & Div 4
It makes me laugh to think anything before 1992 (before prem ) seems to have been forgotten as if its irrelevant because it wasn't called the F'ing premiership it's like when people say Liverpool have never won the premiership FFS yes they have but it just got renamed by some marketing mongs

It's a great competitive division, loads of decent towns cities, pubs to visit. A good few biggish teams to play and also the chance of a win in most games. I would love us to get to the Premier league but can we have a few more years at this level first and enjoy the ride, as i for one once the novelty has worn of dont much fancy a stuffing week in week out and paying £45 - £50 a match for the privilege.

I agree with that to a point, but the problem we have for the overall progression of the club, is that with the new TV deal it's going to get harder and harder to catch up if we don't get into the PL soon...but it's a lot better than Oldham or Carlisle away that's for sure!

The question is have we the squad to make it in the premier league ??? We have the ground and I for one would like to see us play top flight football but I think we needed to be more active in the last transfer window, get some players playing together and get into the play offs should be the min. The other point is maybe the improvement in coaching staff to back up Gus and playing tactics.

I'm happy we are winning a few games and would like to go up but without jeopardising the clubs finances.

Totally. His investment and upcoming investment in training ground and £8M+ of annual operating loss suggests he wants/needs it sooner rather than later. If we miss out this or next season he may well pull back on the funding and who knows what happens then? A nice shiny stadium guarantees nothing

The idea around FP is that chairman can not put money into a club, or splash their own money on a big signing, the club has to spend within its income and earn its own money.

I will stay in this league until I'm confident we have a squad together who will hold there own in the premiership . I don't want to go up and get battered every week with players getting more and more pissed off with every defeat we take
Plus our kick off times would be worse than they are now at The Amex

FFP still allows for investment and for a club to run at a loss, just not so much. Also think that (at least initially) there will be ways to get around it if the desire is there. Regardless, it looks to me like TB is investing now for a quick assault on the Prem. As said elsewhere the increasing parachutes of relegated clubs (and FFP too) are going to make promotion increasingly more difficult. We certainly can't expect our chances to get easier on a "time served" basis

While I would obviously celebrate promotion to the Premiership, I really wouldn't be fussed if we didn't make for a fair few years. To me being competitive in the Championship will always be better than paying over the odds for tickets watching the team get smashed or celebrating a 1-1 at home against Man Utd or City like we had won the league (as similar sized clubs do).

Mind you, the electric atmosphere during the Arsenal game made me think "I can't wait".

For me the most important thing is keeping Gus here into the new Academy, and keeping the players he has brought and the way we play.

It's hard to know whether that will be more likely if we go up, or if we stay in the Championship. As long as there are no massive changes at the club I would have no problem with another season in the Championship, with the players building up a better understanding. I would want a serious challenge next season though if that happened.

So you think Poyet is getting the best out of this squad of players? Playing expansive fluid attacking football with the quality attack minded players we have. Or are like me bemused that week after week these attacking players have their arses sat on the bench watching a negative narrow formation?

I guess it's in the eye of the beholder.

Last ten league games W2 D5 L3 previous ten W3 D5 L2 so 5 wins in 20 games! Negativity is going to cost us dearly.

The promoted teams last year were pretty good, much better than the rest. They deserved promotion yet have taken time to adapt.

Currently, we are not walking this league, like we did Div 1. We are not ready yet. Another year will do no harm. Three more teams will come up and there doesn't look to be anything special. last years relegated Prem sides have all struggled, chances our the next lot will also do so. Those parachute payments have never really stopped clubs heading downwards.

As for building a team/club, that takes time. We lost momentum after the August window, trying to intergrate 5 new players and, only a few months later, we are now seeing the qualities of some. Be patient & enjoy the ride!
