Hard mode? - what does that change to make it harder?, assuming the same word is still used.

You have to use letters that have come up yellow or green and the green ones have to stay in the same place. So if your original guess was the Wordle favourite SOARE and you got



In hard mode you would have to pick from H, T, P or C for the second letter but you wouldn't be able to change the greens so it would be pot luck whether you got it in two or five. If you are not playing in hard mode you could use PITCH as your second word and so be sure of getting it in three.

Hard mode is definitely harder but often less skillful.

I have got the last six (including today's) in three. Yes, you need a bit of luck but not a huge amount. The only day I didn't get it in four or fewer over the past three weeks was when my wife got it in two and so I tried to beat her by guessing early and ended up with a five.

Having said that, I have never got a two.

Your method is just a watered down version of doing this method that some boffin came up with:

1st 5 Goes:
GLENT
BRICK
JUMPY
VOZHD
WAQFS

6th go ... just solve the 5 letter anagram.

Man up and turn on Hard Mode.

You can decide to guess, in which case it is just luck, or you can decide to take a turn to eliminate a number of possibilities in which case there is an element of skill.

You can't do that on hard mode unfortunately. It was pure luck.
