They're getting harder. NYT bought the game for the data it brings. Make the game harder, only the intelligent people will stick around, now you have a huge list of intelligent (likely higher income) people that you can market to. Genius.

Brilliant but bonkers theory. As l understand it, all the words have been predetermined in the code for the game. That's what enabled people to download it in its entirety before NYT got their hands on it. And it's why the words can't be manipulated by The NYT.

And btw, most day one decorator apprentices are more likely to know the word caulk than these mythical intelligent, high income folks you speak off.

Bogey 5 today, like many others have already posted, it was a bit of a lottery - one of those where the earlier you get more of the letters the less helpful it is. This is potentially where not having it on hard mode can benefit, ditch the good letters and use up some of the others for a few goes.

Only my ever second 2 ! Partly thanks to my son suggesting a new start word.

Edit : Despite this two, I'm still pretty poor with a 5.2 average after 53 goes and a longest winning streak of 10 ( also my current one ).

My first 5 in a while after a good run of 2s, 3s and 4s. My one previous fail came on a word like this, where I was left with multiple possibilities with the final letter. Could've easily been the same today.

Infuriating Five.

GXGXG after two
GGGXG after three. So many possibilities for that last letter.

A thoroughly disappointing par four. Great off the tee, then hacked it the rest of the way.

A very lucky 3, but with so many possible choices for that final letter, it could just as easily been a fail.

FFS what a lottery, close to a fail and I hadn’t run out of possible options

FFS close to a fail and there were still other options. Lottery no skill today

Are you all on hard mode? If not that was a gettable three and a solid four.

Par 4, which I'm actually really happy with considering I wrote down about a dozen words that would've fitted.
