Never been to Cyprus before so i was hoping to get some opinions on the place and reccomendations of things to do.

We will be staying in the Coral Bay area, close to Paphos.

Many thanks.:)

Defo hire a car. Not a huge amount to do in Paphos! Although the main marina/beach area is good. It's got waterparks, golf, go-carting etc, etc... but is a bit pricy (or was in 2005 when I went).

Pafos was our holiday destination every summer for 8 years-way too expensive now which is a shame because Cyprus is a great place for a break.

The beach at Coral Bay is perfect for families-nice and gentle sea. As Insider says, rent a car and you can see most of the island quite easily.

Hi mate.

I worked in Cyprus for a couple of months and know it quite well.

Its got a very english feel to it in the touristy parts......mels english brekkie bla bla bla....and with English looking traffic lights and they drive on the same side.....hiring a ar is a must to explore yourself. Hardly any traffic on the roads out of the main areas aswell...so motorway driving is easy going.

I wasnt that fussed with Cyprus, as I like to feel like im abroad when im on holiday and all felt to english for my liking.

On a massive plus point, It has some beutiful beaches, some of the best ive ever been too.....and good nightlife for english on english contact.

If your going with mates, its a guarenteed laugh wherever you go and im sure you'll love it...not my idea of a holiday though.

Im going with the girlfriend.Im in Afghanistan at the moment and we are just looking to go somewhere and relax and unwind.I've booked a private villa with a pool in Coral Bay so hopefully we can see as much or as little as we want to and get out onto the island to avoid the "brits on holiday".

More like avoid the Russians these days.

Drive up the coast to Kato Pyrgos-great scenery and hardly anybody on the road and you can find some nice local type places for food on the way. The town of Polis is still quite undeveloped although there's sod all to do there except have lunch.

Have been going to Cyprus for our annual holiday for years and it is a lovely place, that has 341 days a year sunshine. Was going to buy a bar there in 1995. Unfortunately cannot afford to go there now since they went over to the Euro as it has got very expensive.

Been to Paphos quite a few times, personaly I would steer clear of the mariner bit, it is the very touristy area of Paphos, and there are loads of idiots trying to get you to go to places etc.

Apart from that, i agree with the poster above, do hire a car and definatly go to the Trudos Mountains and make sure you have a camera with you

We prefer going to the smaller village type areas, they are not so touristy and are alot cheaper.

But overall our opinion is it is a brilliant place and we will be going back there once my work situation is sorted out again.....

Have a great time, i am sure you will love the place.

Edit....just noticed you are staying in the Coral Bay area, you will need a car, unless you want to rely on buses or taxis, personally i would go for the car every time.

Just a quick question, when we went there last year we noticed how warm the pools were in our area, is it the same everywhere on the island? we asked the rep and she said that they can't do anything about it because the sun is so hot..

Loads of Brits on hols and in residence.Loadsa villas.

Hire and use a car.

Visit Agios Giorgos ( Ayosh Yoryosh) for breakfast on the clifftop overlooking the harbour and Med.Be decent for evening meals as well.About 5 miles away.

Enjoy, oh,and take insect repellent and bite relief.........y'know,just in case. And immodium.

Do not forget to buy a mossy machine to leave plugged in at the villa.

One thing that has always amazed me is that one of the national dishes is Keftiko but if you drive around Cyprus, as I have done on many occassions, you do not see many lambs or even sheep in the fields, loads of goats cows etc but not sheep in comparison to England.
