been lucky enough to go quite a few times on business, but took mrs HantsSeagull to acknowledge our 20 years of incarceration together not that long ago. Loved the food, wasnt keen on the decor but I like the decor too. Its so 70s, sort of.

did you do dinner or lunch?

Good Good will drag the wife down to Asda later.

Just had a nose online:

Wolf Blass Yellow Label Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Rose or Chardonnay, all on offer at £6.98 (normally- so they claim anyway- priced at £9.58)

Red Label Chardonnay on offer at £5.98, from ££7.98.

I'm slightly horrified that nobody has yet mentioned my favourite and it's my wine of choice in every Christmas mixed case.
GIGONDAS !
It's fantastic stuff and fits your requirements as a full bodied French red perfectly.
It really is very very hard to beat and seems to go down very well at this time of year.
Buy yourself a decanter though as there's often sediment at the bottom of the bottle.
Crack one open and enjoy. Cheers.

Surprisingly,Waitrose are currently stocking perhaps the most amazing red I've ever enjoyed.....a 2006 Rioja,Baron De Lay. So outrageously good that I went back three times this week and cleared the stock from the shelf at the Western Road branch. Then ordered two cases online....it's that good. Price around £11/bottle.

Go for a bottle of Torres Coronas, unlike it's namesake it really hits the spot, a smooth full bodied Red with a spicy after taste, goes fantastic with Red meat but be warned, one bottle quickly becomes two and it's only around £7 a bottle but a fantastic wine, failing that a Californian Cabernet Sauvignon goes well with pretty much everything except fish,
Hope this is helpful
