In UK for 10 days from Indonesia and meeting a friend in Hove for a few pints. Looking for a quiet pub with good real ale, preferably Harvey's. Any recommendations?

next to regency square so not palmeira but hole in the wall on queensbury mews! entirely craft-based pub, very well hidden but always lively, especially when it’s raining. have ended up trying many excellent beers there that i had no idea existed beforehand. another +1 for hove place too if you want somewhere a bit snazzier

This brings back some memories. What’s the other pub on this road? One of them was quite wild I recall.

Coopers Cask, was that the original name?

What were your thoughts at the time on:
Hogshead (national chain, I realise)
The Albion
Seafield
Freemasons
Hove Place
Sussex Cricketer … to me a sterile 1970’s bungalow vibe, no heart.
The Star of Brunswuck
The pub on Palmeira Square

Cooper’s Cask! I think this was the slightly crazy one.

Hogsheads was okay. Bit geezery if I remember correctly.
The Albion - Only occasionally visited this place. Okay pub with good roasts but lots of old men
Freemasons - was a regular Friday night haunt for a while around 20 years ago. Was good fun and had some good DJs upstairs.
Hove Place - lovely garden and a Sunday haunt for a while.
Sussex Cricketer … to me a sterile 1970’s bungalow vibe, no heart. Think I visited this place once.

Getting confused as to which pubs these are. Is Palmeira the big one on Cromwell Road?
The Star of Brunswuck -
The pub on Palmeira Square

Hove pubs I used to frequent when living there were:

Friday night/late night shenanigans:
Cooper’s Cask
The Farm
Freemasons
The Bee’s Mouth - some mates used to DJ in the basement here so visited quite a lot.
The Temple Bar although it was called something else then.
The Iron Duke (for late night lock ins)

Foodie pubs:
The Forager
The Urchin

Soft spot pubs:
The Neptune - loved this place and it was open really late.

The Blind Busker is only a few minutes mince along Church Rd from Palmeira. Good selection of ales, and they do decent scran.

The Albion Full of yummy mummies
Seafield Shocking
Freemasons Too busy
Hove Place Full of Dave Day lol
Sussex Cricketer … to me a sterile 1970’s bungalow vibe, no heart.

Well worth seeking out The Hole in the Wall. Another one I like is the Brick on Preston Street.

15minute walk into Brighton but The Rook is highly acclaimed at the moment and they do £3 cask on a Monday.
