Am 57 and have never felt the urge to drive a car. i know its almost seen as quite odd but i just never have had the slightest interest. Any others out there?

i think probably it was a confience thing and at the time i just decided, not for me, and never revisited it. nor motorbikes etc. was just interested if others had never had interest.

I hate public transport. Full of nasty dirty common people with no manners, the type I see from the windows of my Jag......

I'm 45 and have never driven a car. Never really needed to so it never really cropped up as something I should do.

Work with people of varying ages up to 64 who have never driven. The 64 year old never wanted to and now not only still doesn't want to but is terrified of the thought of ever having to.

However in the part of the country I'm from originally there is NO public transport worth speaking of and its effectively an unwritten rule that tour parents stop being a taxi service when you're 17. So I've been driving since my 17th birthday.

Ha ha ha, my thoughts entirely!

To be honest if i lived in Central Brighton or in and around London I probably wouldn't bother owning a car but i still LOVE driving so there's no way i'd ever not want to do it. I'd probably just rent cars when needed and do a load more track days.

It's good to see people who aren't interested saying you haven't bothered cos you'd probably be SHITHOUSE at it if you don't care for it.

Now all we need to do is get the other 20 million people who don't enjoys driving to give up their cars too and i can actually make forward progress without being held up by MICRA's all day long

Never even had a lesson, let alone a licence. If I had a car it would sit outside the house, being a financial burden without ever actually doing a great deal. I have three supermarkets within walking distance, taking a car into central London for work is utterly unrealistic, and I can get to Brighton quicker by train from Streatham than is usually possible by car, especially when the traffic's bad.

I'd be a bit stuck if I didn't drive living where I do....we're a bit remote. I wouldn't drive as much if I lived in Brighton again. I quite like buses.

Actually I was told recently that Stevie Wonder does drive on his estate.
Could be total bollocks of course and make me the most gullible person ever.

Never understood the amount of cars I see in London, even in my street.

I think I'd have a problem looking at a lump of metal depreciate before my eyes. You might as well throw tenners out the window.

In all seriousness I understand that they are a requirement for people living outside major cities and I'd vote for a party that some how worked out making it cheaper for people in those circumstances.

However, I'm all for taxing Londoners off the road

The only thing then would be to deal with the bloody cyclists.

Had a lovely new experience today in Balham. Women got her bike in the middle of the road and literally ran it through a red light and got back on again.

I was obviously crossing at the time (on "my" green) and had never experienced this unique means of dealing with that common psychological that cyclists suffer; the inability to stop where er.. they are supposed to.

I did my usual ("that not apply to you then...") and got the unexpected reply that it is "perfectly legal to walk a bike through a red light as I become a pedestrian.."

So remember that motorists, if you want to jump a red simply get out of your car and push it. It's perfectly legal... apparently.

And Smith Did Score!
Takes me 90 mins each way to get 20 miles to work on 2 buses. But I've still never learned to drive. I did buy a car to learn a few years ago when we moved to the sticks, but after one lesson with son-in-law, he suggested (most politely) perhaps driving wasn't for me! Maybe at 46 it's make-yer-mind-up time? Or am I just too lazy?

couldnt stand The Cars albums either

What about The Motors, Booker T and the MGs, The Lambrettas and Courteeners ? Bet you don't like Morris Dancing either. Sure you've never been over Vauxhall Bridge, not visited Ford open prison or Austin Texas and I'm sure you hate Opal Fruits.

Very interesting this, my grandad revealed recently he never actually passed a driving test or assesment, mental really !!

My father was told when he passed his test in 1937 that he wasn't very good but he'd get better, he didn't actually.
