Would be good to have him back in the youth setup. Would he come back?
As what though? Steve Brown's now doing his job. Assuming he did want to come back (which is obviously a BIG assumption) a role would have to be found for him. Not ideal.

Would Gus want a sacked former Manager underneath him? Not sure that would work, which is sad as I think he's a decent coach

I think it is likely that Wilkins will remain as an integral part of the senior staff at Soton.

Wilkins rightly remains extremely highly regarded within the game and Adkins seems to be a bright, modern manager that is unlikely to want to lose like-minded staff.

I think Gus has already got his backroom team in place, why would he disrupt it now ?
Much as he has a place in Albion history for us, he's not on Gus's radar.

Is Wendy currently officially their Assistant Manager? If so there is pretty much no chance of him staying unless he accepts a demotion to a coaching role.

Expect him to be looking for a new job but unless he is prepared to relocate he might struggle for a while. Good coach

I expect him to be kept on as a senior coach to their first team.

hope so - in the crazy world of football management it's not exactly losing face

Yeah, it has no comparison to the BHA escapade.

He was kept on by their Chairman as the best suited to fill in whilst they appointed another guy and although the results didn't fall his way, I am told other aspects of his coaching and managing highly impressed and Adkins wants him on board.

They seem to have quite an extensive structure, from their Academy to their development players to their first team.

We seem to have something similar but I am told the development squad consists of only 5 players and they havent played a game for weeks.

Early days I know, but for those youngsters time can run out to quickly.

No. Would you?

Of course I would - a club where he had been with for decades etc etc - but only if my fall out was just with Knight and nobody else at the club... And there was no animosity. If only we knew the facts...

My problem is that Andy Crosby has been made assistant manager. I like Andy Crosby. I don't want people I LIKE at Southampton.

Just far enough away from LDC
Andy Crosby was at Brighton when Wilkins was with the kids so their paths would have crossed so it may depend how well they got on.

Bit worried about Wendy's judgement - seems to have been badly affected by working with Pardew if this quote from the Echo is anything to go by:

After the Swindon game, a deflated Wilkins admitted the squad requires strengthening as he believes it is a way short of what it was last season.

He said: “You look at the firepower from last season from Christmas onwards and we have probably got half the firepower than we did then.
“That’s something we need to address.

I'm trying to think where half of their forwards have gone but keep coming up with the same answer - they are all still there. Still, mustn't let reality get in the way of a good excuse for failed management.

Adkins doubled his salary going to the South Coast Club, and is on a huge bonus for promotion too.
