100% predictable.

This is the first time in our history that a Prime Minister has been publically examined for his actions. God knows there have been a few others who I would like to have seen given the same treatment.

He was questioned for more than 5 hours.

And I knew that whatever was said, he was guilty as far as people on here are concerned. You assume he's lying , so it doesn't matter what he says.

It's the same mentality that decides whether people in court are guilty or not, and criticises the sentences, without knowing what evidence was given and how.

You made your minds up so what is the point of the enquiry?

Bloke is scum should be up before the Hague for war crimes but not going to happen is it. Was always going to take the piss out of the inquiry because he is trained lawyer and knows who to spin.

Of course he did. He is guilty of nothing. One of the best PMs the country has ever had.

100% agree. People moan about Blair as much because it's cool and universally accepted, as being because they don't think he did a good job. Tony Blair was massively underrated as our leader, and I think it takes someone else to prove that. It took Gordon Brown for people to start realising that actually, Blair was a good PM. I know the culture in this country is to mock and to criticise, and people will base their opinions as much on what they see on TV and read in the rags, but if people would actually consider the work he did as our PM, they would realise that actually, he did a good job.

On the subject of Gordon Brown, I think if you're going to criticise him for the state of the country then that's fine. But if you're going to criticise because he's a boring sod who doesn't give a good interview... I think that's stupid and short sighted. I saw an "expert" on BBC news the other day talk about his persona and saying that he didn't have the character to be a good PM... what a load of rubbish.

One thing is for sure, this going to fall on Gordon 'Save the World' Brown, there is no way he can think on his feet like Blair. It is hard to see this being anything but a struggle for him.

Gordon's strengths aren't in the media and talking to people. No no, his strengths are running the country, behind the scenes.

Or so I'm told.

Has there EVER been a prime minister that was/is liked?

Harold Macmillan, Clement Attlee, Winston Churchill...

although being liked is neither here nor there.

When can we have him back behind the scenes, then? And someone else up front.

When Labour can come up with someone better to take the flak in the media. They don't appear to have anyone though. That is largely as a result of the state of our media though as far as I'm concerned. Whoever they try and put in the media spotlight will have to live their life in a goldfish bowl. The media would be desperate to find a scandal, or something dirty in their past.

Personally, I think the media in this country seriously hinder our chances of progressing much as a country. The politicians spend as much of their time answering questions from the media, and talking about stories the media have dragged up (relevant or not) than they do actually making policies and trying to make the country better.

I think it's better to ignore the media; the traditional papers are weakening these days, anyway, so the better future might not be so far away, though rolling-news-24 might still have to fill their hours with something.

Ignoring the media would be better, but it's pretty much impossible. And the masses will always resort to reading the political ramblings of the Sun and the Star, who write for the benefit of their average audience.... :dunce:
