Never saw him play for us. Was he any good or complete pants ??
He wasn't bad and there have undoubtedly been worse players, but he was never a 100% hit with the fans because he replaced Wardie. There was a strange 3-way transfer with Ward going to Forest, Gary Birtles going from Forest to Man U and Ritchie coming from Man U to us.

Scored an absolute screamer at the Dell one evening game that we won down there. Good player but as said before no Wardy.

I seem to remember him being useful but not quite top division quality.

Then, years later, I remember him playing for Scarborough at the Goldstone right at the end of his career and he still looked like a class act at that level.

was not bad came with a good reputation from Man United but never quite made the grade if I think about the great forwards we had around just before Richie and after I think in order I would list them as below:
1. Ward
2. Robinson
3. Small
4. Smith
5. Poskett
6. Richie
go on flame me

I recall him scoring a beaut at home against Man City.

He did indeed.

I rated him , Actually thought he done a bloody good job for us even the£500,000 at that time he was a bargain as transfer prices hit the roof at that period .

Richie did okay but he wasn't Ward. Part of Ward's problem was that Mullery didn't sign him and Mullery got rid of all players he didn't sign. Richie had a much better time at Oldham where he achieved near legendry status until the time he managed them.

He was a pretty good player but replacing Peter Ward he was never going to get the credit he deserved.

We could have signed Maradona and it still would have been "he's not as good as Wardy"

He was a class act - just his timing coming in to replace Ward set the fans a bit against him from the start. To give you an idea - if we had someone like him now he would be a 20 + goals a season man at this level
