Saw a Palace sticker in Worthing last week. It said refugees not welcome here. And just when I was starting to soften in my anti Palace prejudice they just topped it up again.

Palace have a feud running at the moment between some right-wing bald fat 50 year old types making these types of stickers and the Always Ultras who are more left wing. They have had some pretty nasty trouble at games recently between the two groups, there is a big thread on the Palace board about it. My Palace-supporting mate said it was pretty brutal at one of the home games recently with them fighting each other in the stands.

Is it possible that the shop that printed the shirt also committed an offence?

There is a possibility that it was a 'iron it at home' job, but the alignment looks far too good.

Not everyone's a football fan, could have reasonably thought it was referring to a year or somesuch - the bloke is from Warwickshire after all

The newest laws on public order even include standing near royalty holding up a blank card, so direct reference to 97 people unlawfully killed is definitely offensive.

The letters & numbers are proper FA issue so who printed the shirt for him?

He is already a convicted criminal, so it won’t be a slap on the wrist. I hope he gets a long banning order as well.

In fairness, the folk who printed it may not have been aware. I'm sure if I asked a few neighbours of mine they wouldn't know until I prompted them. I'd be surprised, and disappointed, if it was an official kind of issue.

@ mothy as regards matter of offence, society is right to set values and standards upon these things. It is a grey area and new laws haven't helped. But the overwhelming majority of us would agree that celebrating the deaths of 97 people, including youngsters, goes beyond the bounds of the right to cause offence.

To be honest, without being told I wouldn't have twigged it's about Hillsborough, given the very long standing association with the number 96.

Good point about having previous. Jail seems a real possibility for this.
