True, but we ended up getting great football and enough results to keep us up. At least one of us is happy

What do we need to do to get you on board next season? Nothing less than top 10?

While I am not a big Potter doubter, this season has been pretty flat line on last year. For me he has to progress, higher position finish, more points. Not massively but 10th-14th would be excellent.

I'd like us to be not constantly worrying about relegation for the second half of the season (certainly safe before May would be extremely welcome), beat some of the teams who are likely to be in and around the relegation places and not keep dropping points in the dying minutes. I can see improvements but I don't think any of those asks are unrealistic.

Ironically this is probably why you can rest easy.

Style of football is subjective and an aesthetic conceit. There will still be Italian fans who talk of great catenaccio, Dutch fans wondering how they were finally sussed, Germans dismissive of tikki taka.

But Everton are exactly the sort of club who will (and need to) prioritise results over style.

I don't think it's enough of a step up that it'll turn his head at this point if I'm honest. Spurs would be a different kettle of fish, but big a club as Everton undoubtedly are they aren't one of the ESL 6.

A hell of a lot closer to it than we will ever be though.

Can't help but think that this is an opportunity that would interest Potter if it came up. Definite step up to a team that heavily invests in their squad year after year, doesn't quite have the level of expectation and toxicity of say a Tottenham.

Oh yeah signing Koeman, Silva, Allardyce and Ancelotti instead of building some kind of coherent style and identity has really seen them get great results. A total of £500m spent on transfers the last four seasons. League position: 8-8-12-10.

I could be wrong, but I really get the impression he won’t want it.

He has said in recent weeks how carefully he now chooses jobs. He’s connected on a philosophy level with Tony, and is looking forward to completing our project which is still in its infancy. He has such backing here that even if we go down I believe Bloom would still support him. One dodgy season at Everton and he could be on the rocks.

You've confused GET results with NEED results. They need to do better than that.

You've proved my point.

..... and many fans actually yearn for that football (if it gives immediate results).

Ebbrell, Horne and Joe Parkinson, Duncan Ferguson, Cahill ... all still loved in part for roughing the opposition.

Their fans know who they want at least...

If only they knew how impossible it is, but other clubs fans seems to know little about both Potter & Brighton. Even if their board would be interested, its out of their reach.

A little insight into the weird false positives of football fans in that thread. 'Get Potter' says one of them, 'it could also lead to getting Webster of Trossard on the cheap.' Can you imagine any club saying 'Yes, take our manager. Oh and as it's now him that we'd be selling to, we'll also reduce the price of of any of our players you might fancy'?

Get them to speak to Sunderland fans, and how Poyet tried to hurt us by taking Bridcutt & Buckley off us.... for £10M or whatever it was

I'm not sure it's a conceit - you have a style whether you like it or not.

Who on earth would prioritise style over results? Surely every style is adopted as the best method to get results - is football ever played where a team has decided on a style knowing it is less likely to get results?

Different styles of football continue to be both successes and failures, but we shouldn't necessarily confuse the successes and failures of individual football teams with the style they play.

One of our fans on this thread

I prioritise entertainment over EVERYTHING. Play like we did in the latter days under CH and win every game I’d still have stopped going. All about choices, no right or wrong.

Having said that I am 100% sure that given enough time and backing GP will give us style and results

Yep there are some strange logical leaps you see amongst opposition fans. They’re largely ignorant of us. Understandable to a degree, many see us, wrongly so, as a West Brom. Some are starting to catch up.

I see a lot of comments from top 4 fans like “Yeah Ben White looks pretty good, should be a cheap option as well yeah”. Strange.
