I don't know whether the club has considered this and has something in motion about it, or whether this is something that could be done by the fans or both. Or neither. But here goes anyway...

This coming season is the centenary of Brighton & Hove Albion winning the Southern League, and this gave us the right to play the Football League Champions in the Charity Shield.

What does anyone think of the idea of having a re-creation of Brighton & Hove Albion v Aston Villa at the end of next season/beginning of the following season in a friendly, but which raises money for charity? It could be the the clubs' respective first teams, or a representatives team from each club, or an Old Boys match, or even a fans' match.

If it's a fans' match, it would or could be something separate from REMF (altough there's no reason why it absolutely has to be). And if we really ask nicely, we could ask to stage it at Stanford Bridge (venue of the original match), though I suspect that may be ambitious.

What does NSC think? Do-able, or a shite idea?

I think it is a magnificent idea. And if it happens it will dash all the cynicism about premiership clubs I have built up over the last few years.

Good idea but cannot see Chelsea letting us use Stanford Brigde if it was a charity match between us and Villa.

I think it's a great idea Alan

A fans' match would be fun - and to make it more interesting the teams could wear the sort of kit and boots that were worn in the original game.

I'm not sure about Stamford Bridge being out of the question - I've played in a tournament there so I know it can be used by other teams.

Sunday September 5 2010 is the centenary

and Villa use their shirt to publicise a hospice -

we could do the same for with REMF (Say) for a game

The Astral Planes, man...
Why Aston Villa and not the actual league champions, and why not go for Wembley instead of Stamford Bridge, just imagine Brighton and Hove Albion against Manchester United at Wembley... who'd ever think that would ever happen!

Sounds like a good idea. You should recommend it to the club, maybe Villa would actually be up for this meaning we actually get a decent pre-season friendly.

I think that it is a great idea provided we play it at the highest possible level ie both teams agree to provide a strong side, if not completely 1st XI. Dont see the value of a fans match.
