I just don't see a better CB in this country. I know we're slightly out of the limelight but that's 3 hugely consistent seasons he's put in now, plus being so above Championship level when we were promoted it was almost embarrassing.

Tyrone Mings!

I completely agree, and sadly it's only because Dunky's playing for "little old Brighton" that he's not getting the recognition he deserves with international call ups.

I have been very critical of Webster this season but I was delighted to see how well he played last night. Excellent performance!

Never ok in my mind ...Dunk is Brighton through and through

Lewis Dunk is the beating heart of this team on the pitch, this season he has consultancy put in outstanding performances to the point that we start to take these tackles, blocks, headers, cultured passed out of defence, organisational presence, calm leadership for granted.

His loss would be a major blow to the clubs short to medium term progression, but every player has a price it's a buissness after all, he is reaching his footballing prime, playing for the Albion very sadly he is not seen as an automatic England squad member a move to a bigger profile team would improve his chances and selling him now would be a potential huge financial boost during these very hard times finacialy.

I have no insider knowledge but like you I believe he is Brighton through and through and I hope TB and GP like you and I see him as our captain for many a season to come:albion2:

Good performaces yes, but hopefully, with our progression, last ditch defending is not the future for us or England.

Hmmmmm, last ditch defending is the one thing England have been crying out for since Butcher and Adams.

Not too sure why you would poo-pooh it when the national team find it impossible to beat superior opposition, in games that require last ditch defending.

This is so true. You can have the best formations, strategies, processes and projects - but when you play (and are encouraged to play by progressive coaches in dangerous situations) there will invariably be moments when you have to defend manically as a last resort. The only person who's managed to really buck this is Guardiola whose version of manic, last-ditch defending is fouling a team way up the pitch.

Pretty disrespectful to imply he only does last ditch defending. He organises the defence, his range of passing is exceptional, he often cuts out the danger before most spectators realise there is a danger. For purely selfish reasons, I hope he doesn’t become an England regular, it could detract from his quite formidable form for us.

I really hope that he stays at the Albion for the rest of his careeer.

Dunk and Webster are the best England CB pair imo, and criminal they don’t get a look in for England.

haha no chance.

Dunk is quality for us . I think he probably is about where he is in the country. An outside chance of making an England squad.

If he was 22 then yeah he would be in the squad and the vultures circling more

Did he look better (to some) because we played differently last night?
we weren't playing out from the back, which would have tested D&W differently, the job was only about defending last night?

Feels to me like Dunk is at a crossroads. If he doesn't move in this close season, I think his last chance of lucrative transfer will have gone. He could certainly increase his salary if he wanted to.

Or does he want to stay and become a Giggs-like club talisman? Only he knows, but I think Webster is really well placed to take over the dominant centre half role if he goes. I'm not convinced about Ben White mainly because he's never played in the top division but he must be worth a shot if Dunk does go.

Webster is younger and arguably more promising than Dunk, I think he would be his ideal replacement as leader of the team.

The most important transfer business this window is to keep Dunk.

Let's not be one of those teams that sells its best player for a large fee but then gets relegated because of it.

It’s tempting to get our whole summer transfer acquisitions budget with one sale (with cash to spare) isn’t it.

Dunk would be a starter at all the London Premier League clubs - we could get a lot of wonga for the fella. Our production line is stuffed full of quality centre back prospects waiting for a chance, as much as I love him, it seems to be the economic ‘right choice’ to let him go this summer.

Without Dunk, our centre back options are:

Webster
Duffy
Burn
White
Clarke
Østigård
Băluță
Roberts
Dendoncker
O’Hora
Kazukolovas
Tsoungui

We can, perhaps, gamble on ‘taking the money’. It could mean that Dunk gets in the Euro squad next year too.

Agree outstanding yesterday. However no doubt his mistakes have cost us a lot of goals this season.

Webster was MOTM I thought tonight , made some great challenges and blocks. He’s really played well since the lockdown, the poor guy must be dreading having fans getting on his back again in the stadium
I agree with you, why would our own fans verbally berate our players when they are playing?
Webster is going to grow into a classy player, he will make the odd mistake, but that is where the defenders learn so much.
Adam and Eve were a pretty good partnership, but Adam and Lewis make a better one.

I would add that Webster was so good that I have actually started to be ok about the idea of Dunk moving on ( if the right bid were to come in for him).

And hours later....

:tumble:

Sorry! :lolol:

Luckily Dunk would never be poached by a top side, and would never sign for a mediocre side. My guess is the only club he'd singe for is the one he supported as a boy, but that's not likely to happen.

Still, my predictions are legendarily shite so . . . . . yes, yes! I thinkDunk will be off, very soon

Because too many of the fans think the club owes them, and that unless a defender can Hoof It, he's just a rubbish player? ???
