An amusing Pardew story

I had a beer with Pardew the other week - A bloody nice bloke I have to say. He took the time to meet up with a load of ex amateur team mates for a Christmas drink in Epsom after the West Ham game.

I get the feeling he's better liked in the game than some people seem to think.

I'm sure that's true. He was a footballer's footballer in the old style and he's remade himself as a footballer's manager. But that means having different faces at different times, which I think he's very good at and Im sure underneath he's a nice guy..... I knew many nice guys (to their friends and people generally) when I went to the Goldstone as a kid and a teenager but that didn't stop themgetting it on when they were riled. Pardew doesn't take shit (and he's still a pikey, albeit probably a nice pikey)

Palaces win was massively relevant and recent. It changed the course of the 2 clubs forever
Forever, forever, ever, forever, ever?
Forever never seems that long until you're grown
And notice that the day by day rule can't be too long

The only time I thought anything in football was forever was when Archer owned the club and was not giving up control to Dick Knight. We were bottom of the football league, Jimmy Case in charge and I thought the end of the Albion was nigh. If palace go down they will be playing against Rotherham on a November night and they will have less than 10,000 paying punters (when you account for 2 for 1 freebies). If we stay up, we will be getting more than double that. Things will be back to where they were the last time they were in the Championship.

I'm pretty sure I saw a transfer league table at the end of the 13-14 season on Sky that showed Palace had spent the least on wages and transfers. I could be wrong but who spent less?

They have spent a lot on the dive that is Selhurst Park but if they hadn't got promoted they wouldn't have been able to lay under soil heating etc so my point is they've improved their infrastructure long term and playing staff as a direct result of beating Brighton. Whereas Brighton now find themselves with no money to spend at the wrong end of the Championship. So, yes, I reckon the 2 clubs futures have been influenced by that game and will continue to be so.

I don't really have much of an issue with Palace, however to claim to didn't spent much last season is a lie.

A higher net spend than Spurs, Villa, West brom and Hull among others, and that's after receiving a large chunk of cash for Zaha.

Wasted it so much they stayed up.

It seems you are getting confused again with 'us' and 'they' again.

If you asked nicely, maybe a mod could change your name to Confused Little Nigel, and then people would immediately realise that you are easily confused and make allowances.

The £10M in cash from Manure plus £18.5M paid out in transfer fees doesn't count for much though when you look at their squad

Indeed. Like I (well, Outkast) said, forever never seems that long until you're grown.

Spent 26 million on transfers it seems

Short term that money was spent to keep Palace up and one way or another they did that.

Ill take it in the chin that they've spent more than I thought but in comparison to what they've earned by staying up for another season it's not a massive deal.

I stand by the fact that the money Palace are earning has and is changing the club forever. Doesn't matter if they get relegated this year, they earned an additional £70 odd million last year for staying up, will earn a significant sum this year even if they finish bottom and will then have 3 years worth of parachute payments after that. It's completely unrealistic to say that doesn't have a long term effect.

Keep telling you and your palace mates that. If you go down and are playing to an empty Selhurst again for a championship midweek fixture as Brighton have 26000 then you might just change your mind as it will be back to where it was again.

Its all very well having 3 years of Parachute payments but you have a Kamikaze pilot in the cockpit and rear gunner Pardew now

"If, when, might".

Let's see. For the last 40 odd years Palace have been in the top 2 divisions and although money doesnt guarantee success, in my opinion, it will help to keep it that way whether they average 14k or 24k.

I think it's 4 years, with the total amount being around £60 mill.

Utter drivel. The hold up on the announcement is because we're trying to take more of the backroom staff at St. James' Park including their performance analyst but Ashley is playing hardball.

Pardew met the players after the game yesterday and was at the training ground today, he'll also be taking training tomorrow. This is done and dusted

Excellent news, I'm delighted you have replaced one dislikable wanker with another equally dislikable wanker! It means I can continue to hate Palace with a clear conscience. I was worried for a while that you might appoint someone i might have struggled to hate but you've done the decent thing and appointed Mr Ego. I wonder how he will fare with Prince Charming's Ego?!

I make that a net £8.5 mill spend, or you could say Soggy, a couple of CMS's and Baldocks :lolol::lolol:

Has there been a Palace manager that you haven't disliked ?

Steve Coppell, loved him the minute he joined us as manager due to the upset and anger it caused your lot  Edit ** Of course he has VD now naturally.

Never had a lot of hate for Paul Hart, Peter Taylor or Iain Dowie whose ugliness always made me feel a bit sorry for him, bless.
