I wholeheartedly agree that this is not a palace related thread, mind you, anyone sensible would realise it’s not actually a football thread.

As someone who spent the vast majority of my life living in Sussex, let me assure you that I do have an opinion.

The fact that, not withstanding my house in Sussex, I still own two company’s based there (TBF I’m not sure if the Amex can actually be seen from either of them with this virtual telescope GB keeps banging on about, but I don’t see that as relevant) My roots are still fully entwined in the best county in the country, I aim to come home when I’ve had enough of working.

As someone who strongly supported your club both actively and by signing various petitions when you were trying to get Falmer built, I find it ironic that some of you are so stupid to assume that I would sign a petition against light pollution from your ground just because I support Palace.

Out of interest, what makes you think I signed this petition from what I posted on here? and which ‘mindless crap’ posts have I made on here?

Looking at you joining date, I was probably campaigning for Brighton to get a new ground when you were still dribbling and wearing nappies.

I was in Seaford an hour or so ago and it's visible from places there too.

It's not visible from Seaford. ( unless you were at High and Over car park on the road to Alfriston ) maybe it's visible from there.

I'm going to have a good guess that you saw the light pollution from Newhaven port and industrial estates.
On Saturday night the reflection from various lights in Newhaven was far worse than the Amex because of the very low cloud.

The glow over Newhaven could be seen from the A27 near Lewes over the weekend, I can't remember seeing it so bright in the past.

Isn’t this the key point to be gained from this discussion? that the recent low cloud has shown just how prevalent excessive levels of light pollution exist all over the country. Shouldn’t we learn from this and introduce alternative ways of lighting our environment wherever problems are identified?

At a guess, I’d suggest that most people who signed that petition, weren’t anti Brighton but were concerned about light pollution. I find it weird that a number of you feel the need to diss it, purely thinking of it in football terms.

They shouldn't be polluting the sky in such a manner. The stadium is in a dark sky designated area and as such should respect that. I'm not signing any petition but don't let the love of the club blind you to our responsibilities.
The club's response has made them look rather uncaring especially to those who don't know the club. This is not a good look.

how about this, a polarising filter about 100ft off the ground to mask all reflected and diffused light from house, street and stadium sources, while allowing star light through? it would have to be retractable during the day, thats probably the most tricky part.

OK, so they don’t like playing on muddy pitches anymore. They’ve mucked up football so much in recent times that they might as well go back down the artificial pitch route. They can then make all pitches the same, make all decisions consistent and make the football as uninteresting as possible.

On a clear night visibility is pretty good. I walked back to woodingdean from the Amex around 2.00 a.m. after being dropped there after an away game. Conditions for looking at the sky were reliant. Driving up through the mist the other night the sky was orange because of the mist and the lights. Take away the mist and the issue considerably reduces.

interesting the Observer/Guardian article says 9k signed, seems the petition ran of steam of locals and has had to resort to national press to drum up more.

Went past the Amex late evening Sat and Sun from Eastbourne and it was hardly noticeable until you got really close.

A few weeks ago I could see it on the Eastbourne road way before the Beddingham bridge.

Close it looked like the same amount of light coming up but the clouds didn't 'reflect' it as much.
