[Albion] Amex Light Pollution.

Went past the Amex late evening Sat and Sun from Eastbourne and it was hardly noticeable until you got really close.

A few weeks ago I could see it on the Eastbourne road way before the Beddingham bridge.

Close it looked like the same amount of light coming up but the clouds didn't 'reflect' it as much.

Not conclusive evidence but supports what many others have been repeatedly saying. This winter feels like an almost endless stream of low clouds, rain and mist which is always going to increase 'light pollution'. Budding astronomers are going to see bugger all on those rainy, misty, foggy nights. No self respecting insects would be out in that type of weather. Just leaves us with the molluscs to worry about and the slugs up in Croydon are all enjoying themselves thinking they are getting one over us.

It needs somebody local (calling [MENTION=259]Jack Straw[/MENTION]) to take some pictures when the skies are clear, send them to that tw@t Vine and any of the others trying to stir up trouble.

I live in Woodingdean and can assure you this glow has been there the whole time the stadium has existed, so can’t understand why it’s becoming an issue now !

Yep. I've noticed it for years on the journey from Eastbourne on the A27 in winter. It's indeed odd, that people are only now kicking off about it.

You keep posting that, but what you have not taken into consideration is that 1) the main source of light coming from the University in that photo is a temporary construction site; and 2) many of those lights will be turned off outside of University opening hours (looks like an early evening shot). The bright lights closest to the camera are accommodation areas, but of course the lights here will appear brighter because they are closer to the location where the photo was taken. I don't know about further afield, but at night the lights from the stadium have been very visible in the sky for years when you are around the area. If you are there at night it's very obvious from the glow in the sky that the light coming from the Amex far exceeds the light coming from any of the surrounding buildings.

However, he has removed his piece on Facebook after people started confronting him and requesting pictures when the skies were clear. He did so and it is clear that The Amex is no different to all other light sources in the Brighton area. He's a Falmer NIMBY getting a stiffy from all the attention.

can see around 1:30, without cloud the light isnt glowing out, just illuminating the stadium roof and girders.

Maybe the ‘prat’ was aware of species such as the Winter Moth, Spring Usher and the December Moth, all of which are active in winter and attracted to light?

i stand corrected, i had feared i would be. i havent noticed these winter moths, despite years living in Sussex. they must have swept up all the exhausted ones littering the pitch.
