...to be demolished by 2016? I know that they have built the new extension but thought it was in addition to Amex House. However, the centre spread in Argus today says it has to be vacated and demolished by 2016.
I always thought of it as being one of the best pieces of modern architecture in Brighton.

Trust me it's not very exciting! Open plan offices over 8 floors like most other office blocks!

Exactly what i was going to say, went for an interview in about 1993 there one Evening-looks impressive from the outside though, would be a shame if it went..

It's good that people have opinions about architecture but I don't like the Amex building at all. It was designed according to a passing fad of fashion and now looks as modern as a girl called Beryl. Its facade is covered in dirt and grime and it's no advertisement at all for Amex's oft-lauded community values. It's subjective of course but to my mind the best modern building in Brighton has to be the City Library.

Right we need to act quick here-2016? swap the Amex for Edward street....site big enough for 50,000 seats and no transport problems

See I'm in the really like it camp, I do only wish it was twice the height. There is something nicely American high rise about it that I like. I also like the offices next to the old Astoria.

My current fravourate building (excluding the stadium) is Libary also. I think the new 'Media Hub' planned for the old Astoria looks nice too.

Sorry, I have no idea what's going on. What new building?

Amex house on the bottom of Eastern Road has a new shiny Amex building behind it still under construction (Google Image search ' Amex Building Brighton')

According to this thread the older one is to be knocked down. I thought they were just expanding but I guess its just a replacement building.

Me too & i think their original site was far more prominent & imposing, the new building seems a bit tucked out of the way,bit like a green house at the back of a garden..
