These rotten old bits of paper that were written hundreds of years ago and misinterpreted by current day people cause no end of problems. US constitution, bible, quran. Nobody reads medieval cookbooks and thinks that we should still roast cats and eat porpoise soup. Some bits of old paper are taken as obviously out of date and no longer relevant and others are taken as "gospel". Weird.

As someone else pointed out (cos Im too stooopid to see it myself.

As this amendment is sacrosanct, how does buying 2 assault rifles and 375 rounds of ammunition, over the counter, on this high street, with no ID constitute "well regulated".

Worthing
It is being reported that Joe Garcia, husband of Irma Garcia, one of the teachers killed in Uvalde, has suffered a fatal heart attack.

The couple leave behind 4 children.

Could this tragedy get any sadder?

The answer to the OP is No.

I think we should sadly close this thread until the next time an 18 year old buys 2 assault rifles and 375 rounds of ammunition, over the counter, on the high street, with no ID constitute, for their 18th birthday and then bounce the thread for a couple of days, in memorandum.

Is there REALLY anything else to be said

America needs to get its head out of its arse and address gun control rather than concentrating on box ticking and political correctness.

The works of Charles Dickens have a blanket ban across the educational system in Chicago and a large number of other Cities and States because he is a “White Privileged Author”, so an 18 year old in Chicago can’t read David Copperfield in High School but can go and buy a gun from Walmart.

Congratulations on shoehorning your war on woke into this thread, impressive, but I have to say I was very surprised to read this.
I've read a bit about books being banned in the states in recent times but hadn't come across the Dickens ban, can you point me in the direction of some information on it? Thanks.

No thank you, first and foremost can I correct you, I’m not waging a war on woke, I’m nearly 58, been in my profession looking after people for 35 years, I’ve a comfortable life, after a blip with my mental health in the last couple of years looking forward to an enjoyable retirement watching the Albion, 49 years and counting, and hopefully Grandchildren eventually joining me at the Amex and beyond.

However I like many others of my generation, and no doubt on NSC, I’m concerned about the generations below me, how life is for them in certain aspects and how a number of issues are now perceived.

My original discovery about the Dickens came from a chance meeting in Epcot, Walt Disney World this March with a family from Chicago which included an English Literature teacher for Grade 7 and 8.

The people in Chicago are very clever with their words, as was Dr Goebbels, the works of Charles Dickens, Robert Louis Stevenson and Jonathan Swift are considered obsolete, the thinking is that the required literature should be culturally representative of the served population. When I pressed her further she said they all represented ‘white privilege’.

I asked the Teacher therefore if a young lad in her class wanted the group to study ‘Great Expectations’ he would be told that was not possible, that old boy is a ban whichever way you dress it up.

They've managed to keep it very quiet on the internet...

Yet, Charles Dickens did a lot to highlight the gap in wealth in his era. Poverty isn’t confined to race or creed.

Schmunk old boy, apart from you and I using my BA friends and family discount and going over to a classroom in Chicago, whilst taking in an excellent City break, I don’t know where we go from here?

Are you really that surprised they’ve chosen their words carefully and therefore suppressed any mass backlash on the internet?

So, one chance meeting with a single Grade 7 and 8 (age 12-13, bit young for Dickens if you ask me) teacher on your holibobs means:

"The works of Charles Dickens have a blanket ban across the educational system in Chicago and a large number of other Cities and States because he is a “White Privileged Author”, so an 18 year old in Chicago can’t read David Copperfield in High School..."

Doesn't sound like a ban to me.

A quick google of suggested texts for grade 12 (17-18) though does include, that's right, Dickens!

I can only go on what she said old love, as we made our way round towards the Ratatouille ride, with its 90 min queue, she used the words blanket ban.

Sorry can't chat any more now as I've got a bereaved family to look after.

Enjoy your weekend.

The very epitome of 'white privilege'
Born in Portsmouth, Dickens left school at the age of 12 to work in a boot-blacking factory when his father was incarcerated in a debtors' prison.

I believe you Lenny.

here are a few examples of things being oppressed for various reasons in certain states across America.
My father in law ran his own successful business for 40 years and does not believe in dinosaurs, or evolution :wrong:
My wife told me when she was at school she in Detroit, she read such great books as to kill a mockingbird, but had no access to Dickens, and had never heard of him until she went to Boston University.

Ban on “oliver Twist” and “merchant of Venice” from New York Schools Sought in Court.
