Don't start comparing sports again! It's impossible and the arguments will continue forever so just respect the achievements individually, even darts requires daunting levels of commitment way beyond anyone on NSC. Usain Bolt is fascinating to watch and his showmanship draws me to his personality. For that reason he is up there with Bannister, Ali etc

He,through my willing to better understand, has changed my perception of him, this is the greatest lesson of all for me,that all of us should heed.

I know that everybody cannot get on,or like each other,we know this, but we through trying can learn to not just accept because the majority do this or do that, but genuinely change our minds.

How many of us have people in each of our lives who at first we thought of as rude arrogant or whatever, and who we have now become really good friends of,or really admire? i would say all of us.

It just takes time and effort.

The Olympic games has shown to me once again, that for all the showmanship and show boating on display, that the vast majority of the Athletes posses the one true trait that the majority of each of us have potential too and that a lot of others can learn to show, even within sports such as football is - Humility.

A magnificent athlete but arrogance does not equal charisma. Most certainly not the "star" of the games, all the fawning gets on my nerves!
Loved the olympics btw but Hoy, Farah etc are much more likeable.

On your todd here
His arrogance is done in a positive light-hearted manner, life would be pretty boring without characters like Bolt
He is a sporting great and the star of these games (and I am extremely patriotic to England (GB))

It's been interesting reading the replies to my opening post. Maybe i got it wrong, it's probably the fawning commentators that annoy me so much (all a bit ott compared to many other great athletes at this olympics) and not the man himself. Respect is due to him for obviously inspiring so many.

Edit - still think his event is massively overrated!

Yep, I guess you must be the only one! He comes across as a great chap, and I am sure is an excellent role model for young Jamaicans. Even had the graciousness to honour Mo Farrah with the Mobot instead of his normal stance. Fantastic double triple Champion!

Possibly convenient that they share an agent...!!!

So you are one of the fat boys who cannot sprint? What a totally stupid statement to add to your idiotic original post!

I'd say he's spot on with putting what he does in context with other events.

Answer this.

Are you able too:

a) run up a straight track for a 100 metres

or

b) dive off a 10 metre platform performing 3 somersaults in the pike position

Context.

I would only hate him if he somehow miraculously achieved his next goal in life and became a Man Utd player. Otherwise, no, the OP is the only person who dislikes Bolt.

I like Bolt, I like the stuff that went on between him and Mo as well, whether they share the same agent or not.

IMO, arrogance is when you claim you're better than you are, false modesty is no better.

Bolt IS the best at his sport and he's proved it, no reason not to shout about it. His butt can clearly cash the cheque that his mouth writes.

Another context. Everyone can run to a certain level. The competition is in effect everyone on the planet. Very few are involved in a niche sport like 10m diving, with or without pikes, tucks, turns or whatever.

Bolt can truly claim to be the fastest person on the planet, because everyone will have run at some point or another. How many have ever dived? Without wishing to take anything away from those who do.
