Cheers for that. I have similar symptoms to that and my lack of concentration makes doing a maths degree a whole lot harder.

6 months of blood tests though? Why such a long time to diagnose you?

Hopefully blood tests will find your problem, my mrs was told for 4 years she was a hypochondriac. Only when she nagged her gp further did she get referred for an MRI scan when they found multiple sclerosis. Do not get fobbed off, if you know something is wrong keep pushing your gp for more tests/referrals. Good luck

I'm shit scared of the blood test. Never had one before but have to brave it :lolol: They are taking 12ml of blood, 6ml, 4ml, and 2ml for three different things. Is 12ml a lot?

I know that liver function and thyroid function are being tested aswell as full blood count. Also glucose levels (I guess for diabetes?)

Nothing to worry about the blood test - I have to have one every month, it's easy.

I suffered similar symptoms for years.
I was finally diagnosed as suffering from Coeliac Disease ( An intolerance to Gluten,)
Ask your doctor if you can be tested for this.

When you donate blood you give a little under a pint, 12ml is nothing (a pint is 568ml I think).

The most curious thing..
It sounds like you have a very serious case of Brightonandhovealbionitis. It is very common in the Sussex area especially during the winter months, but can be easily cured by getting a train to Falmer to worship, then a train Selhurst to taunt the apology of a football ground that exists there.

Otherwise go see a doctor.

So judging by the response to this thread it could be any number of things.

It is a bit harsh having symptoms like that because you know it's gonna be a bastard for your GP to find, and that's if they believe you in the first place and then can be bothered to look.

Good luck finding out, if anyone fobs you off and you're still sure something's wrong then a second opinion never hurts

So, OUT tonight?

Asking Stos if he's 'out tonight' is like asking Turner-Lee if he's pulled a sort in Digi'..

Cheers for trying to hijack my thread but NO, not out tonight. Too ill.

Thanks for the advice. I know it's a bit pointless posting it on here as it's so many things it could be but good to know atleast that many have suffered similar and eventually got it under control.

Have a great night tonight NSC. It's time to get in bed, whack on a DVD and see the new year in peacefully!

Looking into this online, diabetes type 2 matches my syptoms almost perfectly:

Excessive eating (polyphagia): I eat more than anyone I know, constantly through the day and people I know can never believe it!

Blurry vision: From having brilliant eye sight about 5 years ago, my vision is goign downhill and for that reason have an eye test coming up next week.

Fatigue: This is my biggest problem. I'm constantly tired, all the time.

Weakened immune system: As I said earlier in the thread, I have a cold/illness pretty much the whole Winter each year (if mildly at most times)

Poor wound healing: Only two days ago, when checking my scar wound for a mole removed, the doctor said my body is an incredibly slow healer.

Excessive urination (polyuria): I go so much more than anyone else I know, pretty constant :L

If I'm convinced it's Diabetes, should I ring up the doctor to ask to specifically check me for it with blood test? Can that be done?

These are also symptoms of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Do you suffer from insomnia as well? I was eventually diagnosed with this after a 5 hour glucose tolerance test. They seem to check for this more in the States than in the UK. It may be worth getting checked for this – if it is hypoglycemia it is fairly easily controlled by dietary changes (basically all sugar is eliminated) and vitamin supplementation.

It seems I have a cold through the whole of winter, every year, which ranges from just a sore throat and mild symptoms generally, with much stronger fluey symptoms every 5 or 6 weeks (body aching, headaches, sick).

On top of this I seem to be constantly tired, however much sleep I get and require a nap always throughout the day. If I were not to set my alarm (which is rarely), I wouldn't wake up before 12. My concentration isn't great due to this.

Any idea what my problem could be? As it happens I have been to the doctor and am having a blood test soon but just wondered if anyone on NSC has had similar experiences?

As this has been going on for some time I would suggest a BUPA, healthcheck. I had one about 5 years ago for feeling the same way and found I was anaemic due to low red blood cell production and non clotting of my blood (plateletes) which also reduces your immune system. In short and I dont mind admitting it, a lifestyle of drinking and not always the correct diet contributed to this which ultimately caused liver problems (not trying to scare you by the way) but it sounds very familiar. Taking of prescribed drugs (or non prescribed if you know what I mean can be a factor as well)The positive thing is the liver is the strongest organ in the body and can repair itself. Dont leave it to chance mate, well worth getting it checked straight away. But could just be man flu as someone has said. Blood test should reveal all
