It seems I have a cold through the whole of winter, every year, which ranges from just a sore throat and mild symptoms generally, with much stronger fluey symptoms every 5 or 6 weeks (body aching, headaches, sick).

On top of this I seem to be constantly tired, however much sleep I get and require a nap always throughout the day. If I were not to set my alarm (which is rarely), I wouldn't wake up before 12. My concentration isn't great due to this.

Any idea what my problem could be? As it happens I have been to the doctor and am having a blood test soon but just wondered if anyone on NSC has had similar experiences?

Are you otherwise healthy? Good diet, plenty of exercise?

I eat masses, I suppose a lot of junk food in amongst it but eat a lot of fruit and other good foods too so I'd say a fairly (ish) balanced diet. Yeh I exercise a lot, minimum of three times a week and lead a fairly healthy lifestyle in general..

Fair enough then. Just read something the other day about winter colds and flu often stays in the system of the unhealthy for up to 4 times longer. Sounds like you are pretty healthy to me though.

I was ill last week and still not back to 100%, really annoying cause every time you think it has all finally gone there is a new cough, sore throat or headache. I hate the winter, roll on the sunshine :)

Come back when you've been diagnosed as somthing other than attention-seeking.

Do you have a gas fire/boiler? Get the chimney/flue checked for blockages, could be carbon monoxide poisoning. I had similar symptoms a few years ago, then replaced an old gas fire in my living room. On installation they had to get the chimney swept and around 20 years worth of birds nests and crap came out of it - it was literally blocked with nowhere for the fumes to go. Brought it home to me why, when I used the fire, I always fell asleep. Fortunately, I live to tell the tale, but it really shook me to think what could have happened.

Do GPs these days ever just ask whether someone is really rather unhappy when complaining of a deep tiredness?
Hope that's not the reason in this case of course.
What about an underactive thyroid?

My sister has an underactive thyroid and apparently it runs in the family, so yeh there's a chance of that.

Does a blood test detect everything?
