We wore all white as a home kit for one season in 74-75. I was young then and I have never known why. Does anyone know?

The manager at the time, Freddie Goodwin said it was similar to Real Madrid and Leeds and he hoped that it would rub off on us playing like them. I thought it was a little earlier than that probably 72/73

I'm sure it was 70/71 because in my (often flawed) memory Howard Wilkinson was wearing an all white strip in the home game when he had his cheekbone fractured - funny the things you remember (or think you do)

Here's the 'two-off' kit we had in 2009 for the games against Shrewsbury and Millwall.

I hate it when teams change to an away kit for no good reason (and the only good reason is a colour clash)

Is it more annoying if we change rather than like Rochdale wear a colour that is nearly the same as ours. Apparently it is all down to the ref and whether he considers it to be confusing it doesnt ,matter if the goal keeper punches a ball that his defender was going to head clear because he git confused over the colour of the shirt.

The referee would be confused by red shirts playing against blue and white stripes???

Here's Brighton in their all-white kit of the 1960s. Note that it's Millwall in the blue and white stripes!

The 2 seasons where we played in white (70/71 & 74/75) were both poor seasons and we struggled to score.

The plain colours, be it all white or all blue, do not suit Albion's flair.

Freddie, any idea of the Albion player in the photo from 1966? Much appreciated.

Although wouldn't it be odd if, with this kit, the club finally listened to our calls for stripes on the back?!

Couple of years before my time.

At 1st I thought it might be us defending but the keeper looks like a young Alex Stepney, who went from Millwal to play for the great Man Utd team of the late 60's.

As the book was to hand, I've looked up the match details and it was a March game that we lost 3-2 after being 2-0 down at half time. The crowd was just under 16,000 and 'wall went on to win promotion whilst Albion were 'lowly'.

Our scores were Charlie Livesey and Wally gould and the team, in 1-11 order, was Powney, McGill, Baxter, Leck, Gall, Turner, Gould, Collins, Livesey, J Smith & Tawse. Mel Hopkins was sub and replaced Norman Gall.

Team that day...
1. Powney
2. Magill
3. Baxter
4. Leck
5. Gall
6. Turner
7. Gould
8. Collins
9. Livesey
10. Smith
11. Tawse
12. Hopkins (Gall)

Typical! Mrs comes home whilst I was looking all that up, have to leave it for a good 30 mins or so, come back, finish it off, post and yo & behold I've been beaten to it!
