All time favourite film?

The definition of your all time fav film must be a film that you can watch many times over any given period of time without it getting lacklustre or jaded in any way with similar enjoyment to the very 1st time you ever saw it....am I incorrect in this statement??


If so, the only problem with having a thriller or a drama as your all time fav is that when you know the twist or know how the film ends, some of the initial excitement from the first watch & drama must go surely?

Same with anything comedic....very funny the first time, moderately funny the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th time and then it's not so funny.

At least with a quality musical, as long as you like the tune(s) you can watch it over & over & still get the same pleasure, same as watching a concert DVD of your favourite band.

Disagree. One of my favourites would be Rear Window, by Hitchcock. Although I know full well what happens at the end, the whole thing is so superbly acted, staged, written and photographed, it still gets me every time.

One flew over the Cuckoo's nest - gets me every time. Jack Nicholson at his best.

And for a Musical - Cabaret. Great music, great (true) story and set against the chilling rise of the Nazi regime.

And for a Comedy - Monty Python and the Holy Grail - clever and funny - or Airplane - just hilarious.

Watched layer cake yesterday very good. Britsh films are win. In Bruges is my favorite ... No country for old men my favorite American film .

Its a question you can answer many ways, isn't it?

My PERSONAL favourite film is 'Escape to Victory' but that doesn't mean I think its the BEST film I've ever seen. It has an outlandish plot, some rubbish dialogue, and some terrible acting from a cast with a lot of non-actors blundering through it. But I personally love it.

If I took the question to mean "what film have you been most moved by", the answer would be 'Life is Beautiful'. This is a spectacularly good film, beautifully shot and brilliantly acted. It would be difficult to say you ENJOYED it, in the same way as something a bit lighter, though.

The LotR films are possibly the best film-making I've seen - visually.

Yeah there are some really funny moments in it... agreed the axe scene is classic isn't he talking about Phil Collin and Genises and how uplifting the music is ...before savagely killing his nemesis.
