Stop moaning, you have a choice to use the ample public transport available.

I wonder if Houdini would have been able to escape Bennetts Field in under 75 minutes?

The highway authority in question is East Sussex County Council, not the Highways Agency. A major concern of ESCC will be to ensure that traffic doesn't back up too much on the Falmer - Woodingdean road, and - in particular - to avoid congestion on the flyover over the A27 and the slip roads that serve the flyover. Getting traffic out of the stadium post-match will be a secondary issue.

It does seem though that the balance is hugely wrong at the moment though as there appears little traffic on that road. Certainly not at nearly midnight!!

I have an elderly father, that's why we chose the package. And 90 mins in the car with him is doing my head in.

On the one hand this could be good news as they should know what they're doing....

but on the other hand it could just be Hebbard re-enforcing Carpark Colditz!

We will wait and see...

Do you know if there is any truth in the rumour that a Berlin wall style 'death-strip' is to be erected around the perimeter of the car park?

That's an interesting theory. Does anyone have any evidence that traffic control undertaken by the police actually gets traffic flowing QUICKER?

Reading the article it sounds like a bit of both.

The traffic lights will be turned off and the police will manually control the traffic at the junction.
Anyone found to be abusing stewards and or trying to jump the queue will lose their parking privileges.

Please let this be the end of this sorry saga.

Firstly great post by salty ... top marks m8

I'm not a 1901 but I have used P&R 3 times and if you got out quick then I can only assume you are a major athlete ... from my seat in WSL I've been stuck in stadium area 60 minutes after leaving seat each time

DT Withdean is correct.
I know plenty of people in WSU and WSL who leave very promptly at final whistle, walk repidly to Cockcroft/Mithras park n ride buses, and get away on first few buses. Home in North Brighton and Hove by 5.20 to 5.30.

Does Rugrat need photographic proof with a series of unalterable clocks to prove it!

Since the traffic signal re-phasing required to make Bennetts Field work hasn't yet happened, I guess it's the right decision. I'll report back after Saturday about what effect it has on the time it takes for our minibus shuttle service to get to and from Sussex University. I know that's not the only measure that matters, but it matters to me and to our passengers.

The chaos in Village Way of people picking up family isn't helping.
The Police are starting to pick on these individuals.

The police traffic management plan, ie simply turn the traffic lights off, is an intriguing one.

What a totally daft comment - I've left my seat at the final whistle every time - walked directly to the queue (once to the wrong queue as directed by the way) and not got out of stadium area (village way) for over an hour. That includes waiting to actually get out of stadium as my seat in middle of WSL and equidistant between aisles doesn't allow for quick escapes.

Why would I need photographic evidence if I was there? If you don't believe me (as seemingly you don't) then it sounds like you need the photographic evidence from me ... sadly I'll disappoint you

Thinking about it after away games, the police escorts the away fans coaches & minibuses out of town, normally all routes cleared for a speedy route onto the motorway etc, think Stoke last year, all our coaches and minibuses were out of the stadium, down the dual carraigeway and onto the motorway with no stops at all. If they can effect something like that, ie overide/block the traffic lights, clear the routes out to the access to the A27, even for short bursts, it will let loads of cars get out of the site and away, in a far quicker way than the current free for all.

Left dead on final whistle Saturday. We walked briskly to park n ride, and home by 5:18.
Colleagues did same from WSL, home in Hove by 5:30.
Doncaster, saw Buckley's winner & celebrations. Home by 5:30.

Park n ride working well. Fact.

Yes of course they are, they are upholding traffic regulations:

Highway code:

"You MUST NOT wait or park on yellow lines during the times of operation shown on nearby time plates (or zone entry signs if in a Controlled Parking Zone) . Double yellow lines indicate a prohibition of waiting at any time even if there are no upright signs."

Not really picking on people

It looks like the club is trying to get this right with re-phasing the lights/police controlled, good to know they are listening to their customers. Not a great start to the parking issue, but I'm sure things will improve.
