All Black gives his medal away. A heart warming tale.

I am the conscience of north stand chat, sometimes from the moral high ground you get to see things clearly. And tbf i didn't tell him what he should treasure! If i gave him a nugget of wisdom he would probably toss it away to the first passerby.

:lolol:

No, you didn't tell him directly (sigh), you just declared that the medal should be treasured. That is you, indirectly, deciding what is the 'right' thing to do.

And you couldn't be more wrong.

I do love the idea that you are the conscience of NSC, though, and you occupy the moral high ground. Lovely trolling.

Sonny will be a legend in NZ Rugby for ever after this (more than he was already). Fabulous, spontaneous gesture. Yes, he might regret it at some point.........he might not. He's still a winner.

Only thing that might piss him off is the medal appearing on EBay at some point when the kid decides to cash in.

Usual attention-seeking, look-at-me bollocks from ROTR - de-railing a thread and making it all about him. Quite sad really.

As for SBW, well done to him for this. He knows he's a World Cup winner, he doesn't need a bit of metal on a string to tell him so and if that's what he chooses to do with it then that's his business.

I know some folk have made comments about the medal going on EBay etc, but let's face it, that's highly unlikely. I don't think SBW will regret it, the medals mean far less than the memories, and where he keeps his awards he can just put that kid's smiling face where the medal would have been displayed, an example to himself of his own selfless act.

Apparently the kid's name is 'Charlie Lines'. If it wasn't being reported in mainstream media you'd say that was some sort of joke.

Just gave an opinion its the others that seem to want to keep dragging rotr into the limelight. I'm sure there are plenty of potential worthy recipients who would have been delighted to have the medal but probably not presenting the photo op! The lad had already witnessed a world win was that not enough?

That's enough for now strictly has just started???

Can recall the legendary Kerry Mayo giving his Sussex Senior Cup medal to an Elderly Lady fan in the crowd after a final at Priory Lane .

It made her day as well .

It was moment of the tournament for me.

Showed that for Sonny Bill Williams this wasn't about a piece of tin for a shoebox in his attic, the victory was about something greater, more noble, less tangible, deeper.

And that he could with more greatness and nobility act in such an inspiring and selfless manner could make people think about similar noble behaviours.

Could inspire the kid, change his life; or the thing could turn up on ebay, who knows.

What a guy though, SBW, hero.

Second best thing about tourney was finding out that the All Blacks - by tradition - tidy up their changing rooms, and the most senior players take the lead. By God football could learn something about values from these greats...

I doubt it will, and it is being reported that the family wish to return it to SBW. Although he has declined the offer.

So an Englishman has finally got a winners medal.

Great stuff.

Imagine the media frenzy if the lad did sell it though. He'd be vilified.

The fact that they tried to return the medal, though...another lovely gesture.

Because if i was a fan of that team i would expect them to give blood, sweat and tears to get that medal and not hand it over to a random 15yo lout invading the playing area.

Maybe sports people give blood sweat and tears to win tournaments not to get medals. He has still won the world cup (twice) giving away the medal doesn't change that.

Just like 2003 then.

I have a feeling we'll be holding on to that one for a while. Although I only replay Jonny's drop kick a few times a week these days.

Are you and Charlie related?

:lolol:

No, we're not. Although I once ran on a Rugby pitch at Twickenham (The Stoop)- and missed an easy penalty. I love Rugby, but I'm not the best at playing it.
