Absolutely.

For one reason or another he’s a transfer flop… it happens for various reasons. And to good players sometimes even.

But certainly not due to lack of attitude or professionalism. Like you I remember that day when he scored at the Amex(Bournemouth?). The emotion he showed was as genuine as it gets, everyone was so happy for him. And that Chelsea goal is probably one of the best we’ve scored in the PL.

He’s a first class human being and I wish him the absolute best in his career.

Get the fact that he might not have been good enough overall but he scored 2 in 3(?) games and then was dropped , yet others could not hit the target.

I agree… i was one of the few here wanting him to keep his place in the team after that little run he started. Very strange to drop him after that.

Probably one of the more odd decisions I’ve seen by GP in his time here (IMO of course).

On another note, we've done bloody well to recoup £5m if that figure's accurate.

Lots of people who should know better are putting the boot into our recruitment team. Moan, moan, bloody moan. I suppose the haters get EVERYTHING right in their professional lives?

I noticed that West Ham have recouped just £4m of the £36m fee they paid for Anderson as he returns to Lazio. Don’t even get me started on Haller! That’s a signing from the Bundesliga and one from Serie A, where would these armchair experts have our club sign players from?

For every flop, the club pick up many more bargains like Groß or Veltman, or pay top money for quality like Webster or steal England level young talent like Lamptey & White away from the likes of Chelsea and Southampton.

Our recruitment team gets a lot more right than it gets wrong.

Disagree. As a strategy for a club like ours, it makes sense to buy from less leagues in Belgium, Holland, Poland etc. The value is potentially a lot better than you would get from buying championship players.
Just because we happened to have signed some duds, doesn’t mean it’s a bad policy.

I don't think the term guilty parties is particularly pleasant phrase, especially as it looks like those responsible for Ali J signing with us are still at the club.

Our first attempt to sign Ali J came about 6 or 7 months after Winstanley had taken over as head of recruitment following David Burke leaving. Even if Ali J had been tracked from before then it was still another 3 years of continued tracking before we signed him. Football is littered with transfers that don't work out, and lets not forget this recruitment team have had many more hits than misses, it's just unfortunate that two of our highest profile signings have turned out to be ones that don't work. Thankfully the club are still looking in the Low Countries or we'd have missed out on Joel Veltman.
