I think that the point that Dick made to me was that to take him back would send out the wrong signals to the dressing room. Rather than him being disruptive the treatment given to him would have made him become bigger than the club.

What signal does re-signing Loft give? That you can be poor and still get a contract, so don't bother putting any good work in?

That's a good point, but if O'Callaghan keeps up his recent performances, there will be far bigger and better clubs looking to sign him. If this was to happen, THIS would be where Bertin would become useful. Until then, it would have been nice to have a player of his quality on the bench.

Budgie made that point on the radio Friday. He was coming here but his agent said we can do better ( Ocallahan's agent), so he is here in the shop window.

I think we ought to push the boat out for him and try and resign Bertin. We have a small squad and could certainly do with cover

I fail to see any comparison between O'Callaghan and Bertin.

We probably couldn't match O'Callaghan's wages at Ipswich. He might still want Championship football. Both fair enough, I'm just glad he has decided to give us a go where a lot of Championship players in his position have probably turned us down.

Bertin knew all about the club and had no other offers but still didn't even give us the courtesy of letting us know he was keeping his options open/when he would make a decision. For two months in the summer we didn't even know what country he was in. There is a way to go about things and I don't like the way he did it. And it's his responsibility to act with a bit of class, not his agent's or Mertot's.

Concise and exacting.

Absolutely right, and why people still bleat on about 'forgiving him his minor sin' just so we can have an average player and simultaneously send a crap message about the club backbone to all and sundry - and especially the other players.
This club has SURVIVED on integrity - no reason why it shouldn't require it from everyone associated with the club too.

How stupid are our players, I ask you? If, as seems to be the case, the whole fuss was because of Bertin's agnet, don't all our players know what agents are like and know how the game is played? Why then would it disrupt the changing room if Bertin came back? Either there is more to this story or it's got nothing to do with the changing room and Dick's taking it personally.
