Some fans are :tosser:, El-Abd gives the team some might needed bite and muscle, with a midfield including Cox & Robinson it's much needed at league one level. El-Abd would be one of the first names on my team sheet.

I completely disagree.

O'callaghan certainly has alot of bite to him, not to mention experience and quality.

The performances I witnessed last season displayed championship class IMO. As I previously mentioned, didn't West Ham and Reading come to watch him?

Watching him but not doing anything about it.

If he's desperate we should make him a lower offer methinks. Get him on the cheap.

I suggested exactly that to DK in the car park prior to the Southend game and his reply was "There is no way I will do that I gave him 8 weeks to sign for us and he totally ignored us he is only saying he wants to come back now because he has not got fixed up with another club. To have him back would cause problems in the dressing room and I will not have that."

For once I must agree with DK although he was a good player. From this I hope Dick learns the lesson and persuades George to talk to him not his agent and signs him up permanantly.

We were playing Nottingham Forest that day, kind of makes sense that London clubs travelled here to watch them and not up to Nottingham. That was the reason for one of the scouts, apparently the other was looking at Lynch. Thats what I hear from someone at the club anyway.

Bertain was vastly over-rated because he had a bit of talent in our shower of shite squad last year, he wouldn't get in our midfield this season and is certainly not championship class.

So, a player that sheds skin for the team, has made several saving tackles, has depped from defence to midfield, and has PASSION LIKE FEW HAVE EVER SEEN BEFORE - should step aside for some precious, could-care-less for the Albion, self-agrandising gold-digger, who has already made it clear he'd be off to the first bid from a 'better' club.

I'll remember to take anything YOU say with a grain of salt!

WELL DONE BHAFC for replacing that punk with someone WAAAY better, actually tangibly making the whole squad gel (O'C does all bertin ever did, then 5 times MORE! ).
The only way I could even remember the swain's name is through threads like this.

All great, but El-Abd will NEVER be a good enough midfielder... and his abuse of the fans was out of order...

Thats great but O'Callaghan didn't sign for us outwright because his agent told him not to and that he might get a better offer in the future hence the reason he is only on loan.

Do you want to send him back to?

If your agent tells you he can get you say 10-25% better wages, what would you do?

I say sign him up, we are not in a position to turn down players that are better than what we have. I cant remember any suggestions that Bertin was disruptive or a negative influence either.

Dick and Dean have made there point, come on guys sign him up.

100% correct...

Not me actually, it's a pragmatic thing - that his ability was reasonable, but nothing more , that he COULD have explained his interest in furthering his career (even if it was in his view i.e. joining Cambridge, if he thinks that's in his best interest). But, he didn't. He therefore dallied, and if you did similar while your employer (or a prospective one even) waited, would you REALLY and honestly expect your employer to wait beyond a reasonable period (such as imminent season, and pertinent training)??
I don't think you have thought this through, except to think he was a nice player you liked and if you had a wish etc.

Why everyone wants to down el-Abd whenever theres a chance is beyond me - he's an excellent player, and more-than fulfills his position, game after game.
He may not be a top-rated midfield General (yet), or a Lawrenson class stylish defender - but what he contributes to the team is immense.
I'm sure he'll make a mistake, and who doesn't? And I'm just as sure he'll get pilloried for it, beyond reasonable criticism - because he's the goat for the moment.
O'Callaghan looks great, but he did lose the ball in a dodgy position already.....but won it back well. Adam el-Abd loses the ball, and it's a free run on goal for an opposing striker - and little chance to do a sliding tackle in the area to win it back!

AeA is in a VERY responsible position week-in, week-out. He's doing bloody amazing in my opinion. Let's NOT compare a player who is out looking for greener pastures with AeA please, it is just ridiculous.

You are joking with that 'yet'? You must be... he tries hard but El-Abd is good cover for Whing, and that is all he is and ever will be...

However had it not been for O'Callaghan, we would surely have rued letting him go. Yes he was over-rated, but definitely a better option than El-Abd

It could be argued that if we kept Bertin we wouldn't have O'Callaghan, who is a more usefull addition to our team.

It doesn't matter what the provokation is, players should NOT react... what El-Abd did was completely out of order... he is a player with passion, but little else of merit as far as being a footballer is concerned, IMHO... he would not get anywhere near my team sheet...

That's a good point, but if O'Callaghan keeps up his recent performances, there will be far bigger and better clubs looking to sign him. If this was to happen, THIS would be where Bertin would become useful. Until then, it would have been nice to have a player of his quality on the bench.

Dick does make mistakes... this is one of them... the guy was/is quality and we end up keeping players like Loft and Mayo... agree with your point about the OC tho'...

.

I think that the point that Dick made to me was that to take him back would send out the wrong signals to the dressing room. Rather than him being disruptive the treatment given to him would have made him become bigger than the club.

The central issue appears to be the lack of communication between the agent and the club, which, in turn, means the player and the club.

Yes, the agent may have sold him a bum steer, effectively stalling Bertin's career, but then, Bertin does employ him. If he REALLY wants to play for us, it does sound as though he could really do with changing his agent.

The fact that Dick has little time for agents, especially wideboy agents who promise the earth (or at least the Dutch Eredivisie), and deliver rien, doesn't help him either.
