One last thing on the man.

Reading the Sports Argus yesterday, I came upon this article about David Martot and why he came to Brighton. Bertin's name popped up a few times as the 2 of them are apparentely best mates.

I then came upon this, and I quote -

"Martot's predecessor (Bertin) impressed at Albion last season but did not take up an offer to return. When he did, it was too late."

Surely this means, he has accepted an offer from us, albeit a bit later. I've always thought the lad was quality and would improve the midfield immensely. He sits infront of the defence, and does the Makelele rule very well.

'He messed us about by not accepting the deal straight away' you might say, but this is what Martot has said in the paper

"It's hard to talk about what happened with him here. But I know he would have loved to have played here again. He had problems with his agent."

Surely, we should give him another chance to accept a contract, he is pure quality. Thoughts?

Not at all,DK gave him 8 weeks to sign and a contract,Bertin just stuck two fingers up at him and told him he wanted a better gig. Now he's got nowhere to go he can;t just waltz straight back into our first 11. We're good with what we've got at the moment aswell.

Thats great but O'Callaghan didn't sign for us outwright because his agent told him not to and that he might get a better offer in the future hence the reason he is only on loan.

If your agent tells you he can get you say 10-25% better wages, what would you do?

I say sign him up, we are not in a position to turn down players that are better than what we have. I cant remember any suggestions that Bertin was disruptive or a negative influence either.

Dick and Dean have made there point, come on guys sign him up.

I don't know how much Bertin "couldn't care less" about the Albion, but when I saw him play I was impressed with what I saw. Infact, who DOES have any evidence that he "couldn't care less" about the Albion? Nothing wrong with looking for a better offer, because he shouldn't be playing in League 1. Surely if OC went back to Ipswich or went to a bigger club, he'd be doing exactly the same thing?

I'm with you on this one because i'd like to see him back as a squad player to put pressure on the pairing of Hammond & O'Callaghan which is something we hav'nt got at the moment. Ok we've got Tommy Fraser who is a good young prospect but then it's down to El Abd & Mayo who allthough they can fill in if needed are not going to be putting the pressure on for the midfield slot. It's not as if Bertin is the first player we've had who's used us as a stepping stone while looking for a better contract elsewhere.

Are you confused or something? Clearly he hadn't made the right call, otherwise he probably WOULD have been on the action. CLEARLY.

It was hardly a 'transfer' - he had played for us already, several matches, touted himself elsewhere, didn't call to check on his options or status with BHA, and didn't get picked up by another team. Alright?

No need to hate the guy, but no need to have him play for us now.
WE will go on to bigger and better things, Bertin however..... probably not.

I don't see the problem with him touting himself elsewhere, he had shown he could handle the English game and had the opportunity of making a real career for himself. Wasn't it West Ham and Reading that had him looked at when he was playing for us? Evidently, he shouldn't have left us in the lurch so much, but I'm sure he regrets that and won't do it in the future. People make mistakes, it doesn't make them twats.
Had he signed for us, people would talk a lot more positively about his footballing ability and that's a fact. I'm just a little surprised that people are looking at him with the CKR/Leon Knight tinted glasses on,.

Not me actually, it's a pragmatic thing - that his ability was reasonable, but nothing more , that he COULD have explained his interest in furthering his career (even if it was in his view i.e. joining Cambridge, if he thinks that's in his best interest). But, he didn't. He therefore dallied, and if you did similar while your employer (or a prospective one even) waited, would you REALLY and honestly expect your employer to wait beyond a reasonable period (such as imminent season, and pertinent training)??
I don't think you have thought this through, except to think he was a nice player you liked and if you had a wish etc.

Why everyone wants to down el-Abd whenever theres a chance is beyond me - he's an excellent player, and more-than fulfills his position, game after game.
He may not be a top-rated midfield General (yet), or a Lawrenson class stylish defender - but what he contributes to the team is immense.
I'm sure he'll make a mistake, and who doesn't? And I'm just as sure he'll get pilloried for it, beyond reasonable criticism - because he's the goat for the moment.
O'Callaghan looks great, but he did lose the ball in a dodgy position already.....but won it back well. Adam el-Abd loses the ball, and it's a free run on goal for an opposing striker - and little chance to do a sliding tackle in the area to win it back!

AeA is in a VERY responsible position week-in, week-out. He's doing bloody amazing in my opinion. Let's NOT compare a player who is out looking for greener pastures with AeA please, it is just ridiculous.

To be honest, I think you are pretty alone in what you think about AeA and I rate the guy! I think he's a good tackler and a good passer. I'm not saying we should have waited for Bertin, but I'm suggesting that if it was totally down to him, the outcome may have been different and his agent has obviously been filling his head with all kinds of shit.
And also, I don't think it is ridiculous to compare two players that play in the same position!
