Aldi and Lidl

I had battered Haddock tonight from Aldi.
It was from Scottish waters caught by Scottish fishermen and it was delicious really strong Haddock flavour lovely crispy batter much better and cheaper than other premium brands you can buy.

so they say quality not quantity for me thanks

Its having a big effect on the big supermarkets, ASDA recently announced a large number of redundancies, which I would have been included in had I not jumped ship shortly after joining to take up a role elsewhere and Morrisons are badly in the s**t too.

Its difficult for other supermarkets to compete with Lidl and Aldi as their mantra is "Stock it high, sell it low" so what others are now doing is simply diversifying. Morrisons and Sainsburys are now opening more "local" stores and Tesco are pushing their online business more. Home Shopping accounts for lots these days too. When i was with ASDA for a short time, the store I worked at made three times more from Home Delivery than actual instore purchases. Who knows, supermarkets in the future simply may not even exist.

I shop at Waitrose, Sainsbury's or a local Co-op and it'll probably stay that way unless an Aldi or Lidl opens next to my house.

Supermarkets don't make profit from online home delivery, its too labour intensive

Have only recently discovered Aldi
My food bill is nearly half that of what it used to be.
The quality of their staple foods is just as good if not better than the big 2.
The stock turn around is much quicker too so tends to be fresher also.
Can't beat the Germans for things like hams and cheeses and they are cheaper anyway than the other players.
I hate the way the big firms do their pricing like offers 2 for the price of one at an exaggerated price rather than just reduce the price of the item concerned.
This just encourages food wastage and is just plain greed.

It's trial and error. Some of their own label brand equivalents are totally shit but some are great. They are brilliant for staples like bread and fruit and veg but breakfast cereals are very strange.

Fading? Not the burgess hill branch for sure. It takes a million plus pounds a week through the checkouts and probably doubles the turnover of all the other supermarkets in burgess hill combined excluding the petrol filling station! Tesco is a beast. Huge compared to sainsbury and asda in the uk. Sales may be down recently as a company but not this branch. They also have the little metro/extra store in burgess hill.

Sorry chap, bigger doesn't always mean better. I live near Worthing and in the local area we have nine (yes NINE!) branches of Tesco. The company appears to be systematically taking over the town and eliminating small independent retailers.

There's an Aldi in Southampton where, on the one occasion that I have been to it, we were parked between two BMW X5's, with plenty of other Chelsea tractors in the car park. Last Christmas, their premium mince pies were a Which best buy, as was a French sparkling wine ((Saumur, from memory) they had. Their champagne at about 4p per bottle also came out very well.

Still only go there once in a blue moon, which to date amounts to twice.

I know a head chef of a very well known golf club who told me they buy all their vegetables from Aldi as they are of far superior quality than Asda Tesco Sainburys Morrisons even Waitrose.

It's nothing like that in the Dorking branch. You might just want to move out of your obviously fairly common little village into a more sought after area.

Tesco Burgess Hill must rank in the lower regions of Tesco good shops as in comparison to most branches is poor, there are many empty spaces on the shelves that have not been restacked plus I will not use a supermarket that doesnt stop people letting their child ride in the trolley, very unhygenic. I wrote to Tesco about this and their answer was it was too dangerous for their security men to enforce. Simple just put a notice on the door and the security man or any member of staff when questioned by an irate parent just point to the notice and say only obeying company orders.

The truth of the matter is that customer with a brat in the trolley may spend somd money.

Don't use them myself as live next to and work at Rustington Sainsburys but my mum does, and when I lived at home I have to say you can never really tell the difference between a lot of the food and it's much cheaper, is just trial and error on some items not being good quality. There's a reason the major supermarkets are shitting themselves about Aldi and Lidl.

We have 2 co-ops in Shoreham and in my experience their own brand stuff is awful quality. I don't think I've found anything I would buy again. I do use the shop because it's conveniently placed if I don't fancy driving, but only buy branded stuff.
