I'm really liking Seconds at the moment, very post punk. Current release is a split with Joya, who are absolutely pants. Listen to the first half, ignore the second.

Shopping have a new album out in September i think. For those who still miss Delta 5 and the Au Pairs

I popped something about Seconds in the live thread when they played The Hope the other day. Great stuff, I thought, couldn't make the gig unfortunately

There's a lot of bands featuring members of Shopping that are also brilliant. Trash Kit probably being the best.

Beach House - 'Depression Cherry'

One of my favourite dream pop bands with a very subdued but quite gorgeous album. I might even go so far as to say that this is up here with the very best dream pop I've ever heard (and I've heard a lot, esp the Scandinavians). It really is music to daydream to. Highly recommended.

Small Feet - 'From Far Away Everything Sounds Like The Ocean'
This is another superb album. A Swedish trio who combine 60s folk with a touch of psychedelia. At times you think they draw their biggest influences from Neil Young and at other times Leonard Cohen but they also bring their own fantastic musicianship to the album too. Just check this track out and tell me that they haven't spent a lot of time listening to Leonard Cohen's 'Suzanne'.

Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats - 'Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats'

A perfect album for a lovely day like this. To my ears it sounds as if it's a combination of Sam Cooke soul songs and Van Morrison numbers as covered by Creedence Clearwater Revival. This album is a lot of fun. It's unashamedly retro, it's cheesy in lots of places and it will get you tapping your feet.

A couple of his songs from the album here:

Haven't bought a lot of albums this year but have just splashed out on 3:-

Beach House - Depression Cherry
The Foals - What Went Down
Destroyer -Poison Season

Will be having a good listen over the weekend.

Have also got Deerhunter & Destroyer tickets for their live shows on consecutive evenings in Brighton.

I'm a bit late to the Föllakzoid party but boy what an album. Some obvious nods to kraut rock and wonderfully hypnotic and thoroughly enjoyable.

Yup. It's fantastic, one of my -- if not the -- album of the year so far. Speaking of which, I haven't been taken by any reviews of any new albums for months now, so I'm wondering if others want to indicate anything from this year. The best albums from this year I've heard include:

Matthew E White
Follakzoid
Godspeed You Black Emperor
Sauna Youth
Ghostpoet
Mbongwana Star

On a slightly different note, the best album I've heard for the first time in 2015 is Bitches Brew. Does anyone know of any other albums (presumably of that period) by Miles Davis that are similar. I'm not expecting it to be of a similar quality.

I'd say 'On The Corner' is the best of that era but it isn't as off the wall as 'Bitches Brew.' It's more concerned with a heavy groove.

Glad to see the Follakzoid album still getting due credit. It's a special record, I hope they carry on this deep psych sound, they are outstanding at it.

Jack Johnson and On the Corner are both from around the same era and similar funk jazz jams like BB. In a Silent Way was the album he recorded just before BB, its slightly less groove oriented but one of his best albums, the first fully electric album he recorded with the great John McLaughlin playing guitar.

If you like that sort of thing, you should also look out for Weather Report's early albums, particularly I Sing the Body Electric and, of course, Herbie Hancock's early bands (but if you're a Miles fan, you already knew that)

2 new albums that I can't recommend highly enough, I've had them on repeat all weekend.

Georgia - 'Georgia'. Young North London girl who incidentally played youth team footie for Arsenal and QPR before working at Rough Trade releases her solo album. Occasionally she sounds like MIA but a better comparison would be Grimes or Fever Ray or maybe Lorde, the album has a lot of depth, a lot of soul and she sounds likes she has a big future ahead of her.

Sweet Baboo - 'The Boombox Sessions'. North Welsh band who are good mates with Cate Le Bon, H Hawkline, Super Furries. This album is an absolute delight. It couldn't be any more charming if it tried. Very witty, perfectly crafted pop. I've described this album to friends as the album I wish Belle and Sebastian had made this year instead of their disco-driven effort. If you're a fan of B&S or the likes of The Wave Pictures then you will adore this album. Guaranteed.

Loving that Sweet Baboo album

Highly recommend this, released in March this year:

Ray Bradbury's 1950 post apocalyptic short story "There will be Soft Rains" from his Martian Chronicles collection is given a soundtrack using Leonard Nimoy's 1975 spoken word narration. Gets more unsettling with each listen.

Here's a stream of the new Ought album. They made my favourite debut of last year and initial impressions suggest this one might be even better. FFO The Fall, The Strokes, Talking Heads.

Another great young Canadian band are Telstar Drugs. Their latest cassette is one of the best things I've heard this year, they've got that same dissonant magical Velvetsyness that Women specialised in.
