Well, there is no Rounder this year but them bearded plaid types at Resident have released their top 10 albums of the year.

1.grimes - visions
2.first aid kit - the lion's roar
3.django django - django django
4.chromatics - kill for love
5.grizzly bear - shields
6.goat - world music
7.alabama shakes - boys & girls
8.sharon van etten - tramp
9.the xx - coexist
10.mark lanegan band - blues funeral

I've got 5 in that list (1,3,5,7,9) which are the odds and apart from Alabama Shakes I agree they're all worthy entries. Grimes and Django Django will certainly be near the top, if not the top, of my list. Anyway, I need some time to compile mine. Laters.

I first saw Alabama Shakes live they are wonderful and the singer has a good set of lungs on her; something special. I then bought the album and it did not come up to scratch sadly. Booo.

I love the Alabama Shakes album. Had tickets to see them at The Concorde, but unbelieveably got the date wrong and turned up a day late. Enormously pissed off...

The Djangos album is the only one on the list I know well, and it'd take a bit of beating. Have seen them 3 times this year, once in a student union, once in the National Museum of Scotland and once in a big tent on the Isle of Eigg. All equally brilliant.

Also really like what I've heard by First Aid Kit - the session they did for Marc Riley on 6 Music a few months back was absolutely stunning. TIme for some shopping I think.

Alabama Shakes are way over rated in my view. Massive hype act at this year's TGE so didn't even bother trying to get in. Saw them at Bestival and they were ok but no more. Don't rate the album at all. Wish Grimes would play Brighton again.

£90 for that lot is a great deal.

A mate recommended First Aid Kit to me, so I decided to see them live. Got stitched up by a tout for a ticket, but what the hell. Got royally plastered in the place after partaking of too much linament, and the manager had a bouncer sling me out, which was a proper fly in the ointment

It was this year, so does count. It is a fine album, too.

I've bought very few albums this year, but that was one, and would be on my list. I'd also add the new Beth Orton and the Of Men and Monsters one. Really enjoying that.

Of Monsters and Men, no? My mate saw them recently and brought me back the CD, still to give it a listen, ta for the reminder to do just that.

Another album of the year contender from left field (i.e. Scotland): Meursault's "Something for the Weakened". A bit on the mournful side for some tastes but absolutely beautiful. If you ever get the chance to see them live, do it - the singer has the most powerful voice I think I've ever heard. Once heard him sing without microphone to 500ish people in Edinburgh's Queen's Hall and his voice completely filled the place. In a good way.
