Mumford and Sons - Babel, would be my favourite album of this year.

Amy Macdonald - Life in a Beautiful Light would be my second.

Hmm.... not been impressed by much this year. Couldnt get into Django Django and think Babel is not as good as Sigh No More. Waiting to hear something that makes me sit up and listen.

Well, there is no Rounder this year but them bearded plaid types at Resident have released their top 10 albums of the year.

1.grimes - visions
2.first aid kit - the lion's roar
3.django django - django django
4.chromatics - kill for love
5.grizzly bear - shields
6.goat - world music
7.alabama shakes - boys & girls
8.sharon van etten - tramp
9.the xx - coexist
10.mark lanegan band - blues funeral

I've got 5 in that list (1,3,5,7,9) which are the odds and apart from Alabama Shakes I agree they're all worthy entries. Grimes and Django Django will certainly be near the top, if not the top, of my list. Anyway, I need some time to compile mine. Laters.

I first saw Alabama Shakes live they are wonderful and the singer has a good set of lungs on her; something special. I then bought the album and it did not come up to scratch sadly. Booo.

It is an interesting top ten. Surprised that Toy are not there and nothing from Ty Segall.
Agree with you about Alabama Shakes- they will not be in my top ten and neither will XX be.

Straight in to the top of my shortlist in Daphni (aka Caribou) with Jiaolong. Caribou does a dancefloor oriented album and very interesting and enjoyable it is too.

Not sure what my top album would be but really enjoyed:
Toy by Toy
Cyrk by Cate Le Bon
Free Reign by Clinic
Also worth a mention are Future Of The Lefts- Plot against Common Sense and Blunderbus by Jack White.
Disappointment of the year for me was Animal Collective with Centipede HZ

Boring By Sea
Toy by Toy
Europe by Allo Darlin'
The Violence by Darren Hayman and the Long Parliament

Not heard The Violence yet but read some very good reviews. His instrumental album about Lidos was enjoyable as was The January Songs. Saw him at Unitarian Church Brighton but think that was tail end of last year.

Seen Toy live and enjoyed their album, and Django also my favourite, but two from later this year that stick in the mind are:

Swans - The Seer
Godspeed you Black Emperor! - Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!

Both noisy, but incredible music

I only have the XX and Alabama shakes in that list. I totally rate Alabama shakes. Terrific album. On the other hand, if anyone wants my copy of the XX album they can have it. That difficult second album becomes much easier if you just do exactly the same thing but not quite as well.

Anyone got First Aid Kit? I've heard good things
