Albion set to put Hammond up for sale

Hammond being placed on the transfer list is merely the inevitable outcome of both parties doing what is the right thing for them.

Hammond is ambitious so there is no incentive for him to sign a new contract now when he can possibly realise those ambitions at the end of the season, either with the Albion or by moving to another club on Bosman. Nothing wrong with that.

The club want Hammond to stay, however his refusal to sign a new contract means that there is a real danger that they will lose him as an asset at the end of the season without any financial compensation. They have a few days now to make sure that they do get some financial return for that asset, so they've made him available for transfer.

I don't really think that there is any need for animosity towards either party, but if I'm honest I'd rather the club got the best out of the situation than the player, as the club will be around longer. I think the best that we can hope for is that; a) He signs for a Championship side now for a decent fee; b) That he doesn't sign for anyone in the transfer window, nobody picks him up in the summer, and that he signs a new contract with us for next season.

What he said....

If you read another thread last night you would see that tip top, who ever he is, apparently knows and speaks with the Blooms says that they are disturbed by the team selection etc which would suggest tht they would be reluctant to carry on putting in money. Norman Cook has apparently said that he is not putting anymore in. DK hasnt got it to put in. If you was a bank manager looking to loan the club in excess of 30m would you consider them a sound viable investment now.

Everything that DK does now seems to be etched in critisicm from supporters and his popularity is dropping fast, if it continues apart from the TLOs of this board who can see no wrong in him, the vast majority will be calling for new people to take over, that is why there was so much hype and hope when it was suggested that David Gold may be interested. All the good that DK has done in the past will be pushed aside, never to be forgotten but classed as yesterdays news.

Alright, I'll bite. Do you know what Brian, you're are beginning to piss me off with your lies and misrepresntations about me. I mean seriously piss me off.

If it's lies you want to deal in, I can make up a fair few about you, then let's see where that get us...

You're not part of the loop (nor am I) yet you decide to arbitrarily pick and choose the things you want to believe about Dick. Tip Top says XYZ about the Blooms, Norman Cook 'apparently' won't put any more money in (please tell us your source to back up Tip Top's claim - I'm fascinated) and you choose to believe it, because it fits in with your well-stated agenda. I have never made a comment about Dick hasn't done this and Dick has done that, I make statements about why I feel he has done something - even when I disagree with what he has said or done, and stay silent (yes, really) when I can't form a explicable opinion. yet you CHOOSE to believe I think he can do no wrong.

In this instance, you are wrong about me, Brian. So f***ing wrong, it's embarrassing.

:relaxnow:

I am surprised and a bit disappointed that Dick has made a statement of his intent to put Dean on the transfer list if he doesn't sign. But that's from a personnel point of view. From a business point of view, there is a fair amount of logic and sense behind it. But then, in reality, I can't make a judgement on it or comment on a judgement because I don't know all the facts of what is happening. I have to take in what I hear from one side, then the other, work out for myself which sounds more credible, and take a view.

Which is very different from saying 'Dick can do no wrong...'

I've probably made a prat of myself with this Keegan-esque rant, and I'll probably be well embarrassed later. Ho-hum. A strong coffee medicinal calls, methinks.

Oh dear Al, you of all people to allow BG to push your buttons.

Where is the new NEWS here?
There is not a quote from the club to back up the headline. If Hammond does not accept the new deal, then under the rules the club has to inform other clubs of his availablility.

And then this bizarre and unsubstantiated opinion from Naylor at the end.

More piss poor journalism:rolleyes:

Albion poised to sell Hammond

Dean Hammond
Albion captain Dean Hammond looks as if he has kicked his last ball for the club.

The Seagulls are putting Hammond up for sale following his refusal to sign a new contract.

The 24-year-old midfielder will be entitled to a Bosman free transfer at the end of the season when his current deal runs out, which has forced Albion to try to cash in on him during the rest of the January transfer window.

Hammond's agent, Tim Webb, revealed in The Argus yesterday that his client is holding fire on signing the contract on offer, because he wants to be convinced of Albion's Championship ambition.

Chairman Dick Knight said: "Dean Hammond is the club's captain and we want him to stay, which is why we have gone that extra mile to keep him.

"We have been in negotiations with the player and his agent since the summer in an attempt to agree a new contract. The deal on the table reflects Dean's importance in the best possible way but it remains unsigned.

"Personally I don't think it helps the player or the club to be conducting negotiations in public. Nonetheless the situation will be resolved in the next few days, because the club will not be held to ransom.

"If Dean is unwilling to accept his excellent new deal, the club will reluctantly be forced to make him available for transfer."

Albion have already turned down a bid from Colchester and other Championship clubs are expected to show an interest in their highly rated leader.

Hammond is currently serving a three-match ban which does not end until after the home game against Crewe on February 2 so he will almost certainly never play for the club again.[/SIZE]

If - and it's still a big IF - that happens to be the case, it's a pisspoor way to end your career at your first club - with a two-footed lunge earning a red card and a three-match ban.

:nono:

But haven't you been reading the posts? That's not Dean's fault, it's Dick Knights.
