As the Albion have now reached the half way stage in the season, I thought I would put a quick table together looking at how the results achieved compare against the opposition’s league position (as at today’s date).

I always find it strange when a top six club is very good at home but terrible away. If you take MK Dons, at home they have won 9 and only lost 1 but away from they have won just 2 and lost 9! Similarly, Bournemouth have won 9 at home and only 2 away.

Second placed Huddersfield have lost nine times this season compared to only three defeats all season for the Albion (home and way). In fact Huddersfield and Saints have both lost as many home games (3) as Albion have in their entire 23 games played to date (Albion of course are still undefeated at home and the only side in L1 with such a record)!

Still got D&R twice although they have managed the odd win recently. At least we still have to play arguably the two biggest threats (Huddd & Saints) at home.

Thanks for your help earlier BoF!

Only Notts Forest & Man Utd still unbeaten home [with ManU still unbeaten in league]

Notts Forest have a record of 32 games unbeaten at home or something mad. (From football league show, not too sure about accuracy)

And we were the ones to break it on 17/11/79 1 - 0 Gerry Ryan

So far this season, Albion have scored an average of 1.83 points per game against top half opposition and 2.18 points per game against teams in the lower half of the table.

Keep that up for the rest of the season ... and we finish on 93 points.

Do the same calculation for every other team in the division ... and the top end of the final table looks like this:-

Brighton 93
Bournemouth & Southampton 79
Huddersfield 77
Peterborough & Oldham 72
Colchester 71
Charlton & Sheffield Wednesday 70

In other words ... automatic promotion could go to any team that can reach 80 points. We need another 34 points from 23 games.

To reach the play-offs, we might need no more than another 26 points from 23 games. Even Yeovil (in 21st position in the league) have achieved that.

Got Notts Co and Colchester twice as well. Don't think they will be a walk in the park either.

I worked out the other day that 81 points should guarantee us promotion, 85 would make it almost certain.

81 won't be anywhere near enough.86pts

Abort, retry, fail
On current form...

Using the average home and away points scored, multiplied by the remaining games, the table looks like this.

Of course, that doesn't take into account the easier/harder points scored with the differing opposition.

A 3-way tie for the final playoff spot.

Compared to Norwich last season we are well behind on points.

In the projection posted above, 78 would do it. I said 81 should be enough, 85 it would surely be in the bag.

If any two of Bournemouth, Southampton and Huddersfield put on a spurt (and do better than they've done so far this season), you're right. If only one of them gets moving, we won't need as many as 86.

86 pts for 2nd

90 pts for title

Huddersfield only have 3 tough games to play.

I firmly believe Wednesday will go on a run.

You will see the better teams now kicking on. Wednesday have championship players and you will see this now untill the end of the season. Both there goal difference home and away is solid. They have added players too. They will be up there for sure but might have left it to late.
